Before shutting down Sierra yesterday, I installed an available update. This morning, I keep getting an error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have tried to "Run as administrator" and I have deleted all files and reinstalled today from your website - still same error message. |

We want you to try and run the executable directly, rather than through a shortcut. To do this, please open a File Explorer and go to the location of where Sierra Chart is installed and double click on the file named SierraChart_64. This should start Sierra Chart. Let us know what you get if it does not work. If you can include a screenshot showing the error, it would be helpful. It occurred to me that I had a Windows 11 update yesterday afternoon (after I had closed the charts), so this morning (while waiting for your guidance), I did a system retore, and rolled that computer back to yesterday morning, prior to the update. That worked. I can only assume at this point that something in the Windows 11 update messed with Sierra. Thank you. |

RE trying to run the executable directly: yes, I did try that also before I reached out; I got the same error message.

We have not heard of any issues with Windows 11, so this is quite surprising. We are glad you were able to fix this. But we really do not understand why this occurred. Scary problem. This is what has always been a fear with Microsoft Windows. They can lockout programs at will. We recommend avoiding Windows 11. UPDATE: The Windows 11 update that I installed yesterday, which I thought caused the problem, appeared again today. But, before installing the Windows update, I updated Sierra Chart using Help>Download Current Version> and following prompts like normal. After the Sierra update I attempted to open Sierra Chart, but I got the same error message (I have uploaded an image). Since I couldn't open Sierra Chart at all, I came here to your website to attempt to download the previous version of Sierra. After downloading Sierra Chart Installer, I clicked on the .exe file, and received the same error message. It looks like the problem is on the Sierra side, or an incompatiblity with Windows 11. I have been using the computer in question since last April, and I had Sierra version 2390 installed before attempting this update. I am now doing a System Restore again to be able to open Sierra. Please advise. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2022-10-14 23:45:04

The error message is making reference to Internet Explorer. Or something associated with Internet Explorer. How are you starting Sierra Chart? Go to the installation folder where Sierra Chart is installed and run Sierra Chart by running the SierraChart_64.exe file. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Do you mean Windows Explorer? As for how I start Sierra, I typically use a shortcut, but have also tried to open by clicking on the .exe file. I get the same error message either way |

No, you can clearly see in that screenshot you provided it shows Internet Explorer in the path.

UPDATE: The following website offered several solutions. Solutions numbered 2 and 3 worked for me. #2: I have PC Matic, which sometimes resets itself to automtatic override, and I set it back to override with prompt to allow Sierra Chart to launch. #3: I changed my system's permissions so that my Windows user account had "full control" over Sierra Chart. https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-fix-access-denied-error/ Hope this helps others who may experience this problem. |
