Options for connecting a DTC client directly to data feed

Hello, I am interested in running a DTC client that connects directly to the Teton data feed instead of going through Sierra. Since DTC is an open protocol I assume this would be fine, but I thought I should inquire about how I may do such a thing. I would of course still use Sierra for visualization, DOM replay, and charting but would like the option of running my automated client without having to have Sierra running just as a proxy (I use linux and once ready I would likely be deploying to a VPS). I would also like my DTC client to be able to connect to the simulated trading service for backtesting and algo dev. Is this possible, and what service level package would I need? I am reviewing the service package levels now but started with level 3 to make this inquiry (I have been away from trading since 2010 or so which is when my sierra usage expired lol). Thanks. |

You can connect directly to the Teton and Simulated trading servers for trading. However, you cannot connect direct to the market data servers or access market data outside of Sierra Chart.

Okay, thank you for the clarification. A couple follow ups: 1. Are the simulated trading servers all real time only, as in there is no backtesting support? I maybe misread the functionality. Based on your response that you can place trades but have no data makes me think there is no way it would support a replay/backtest mode given that the system would need the data to serve as the "clock". 2. For server based deployments, does sierra have a "headless" mode where you can run it with a low resource footprint and just use it as a proxy to the Denali data servers from a DTC client application? This would be similar to IQFeed and IB's gateways. If there is nothing out of the box for this, I suppose this would be achieved via a virtual frame buffer and opening sierra with an empty chartbook -- although it would still require wine. Is that the best approach or is there an alternative? Thank you. |

1. The server-based trade simulation service has no back testing support. They do support real-time and delayed data though. For back testing, refer to: Auto Trade System Back Testing 2. Sierra Chart already is very efficient and uses minimal resources. There is nothing more that you need to do. If no Chartbooks are open that makes a huge difference already with performance. Also accessing market data from the DTC server in Sierra Chart is restricted based on exchange rules. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
