I'm a new user of SC. I have now configured it pretty much to my liking and am preparing to trade. To do this and get used to SC, I want to use the simulation system for a short while. I placed a trade today with Simulation enabled and noticed that there is no position showing per se, no simulated account balance (no way to set one up, etc.) I then read this: Simulated Futures Trading Service and this: Trade Simulation There is so much data and so many pages that it's hard to keep up. This is my understanding: if I want to have a simulated account balance, show simulated positions (as opposed to only showing orders), I cannot use the simple simulation feature but should change the trading service to "Trading Evaluator" (which will disable my regular real/live trading account CQG.) But It seems that I also would have to install an new (sub) instance and use THAT to select the above "trading Evaluator" service? If this is correct, is there a way to install a sub-instance WITHOUT having to reconfigure everything, charts, custom indicators, etc. Any help, suggestions and shortcuts here would be helful. Thanks. |

First - you are correct in terms of the simulation options. The built-in Simulation Mode does not have an Account Balance, just the profits and losses from the trades. To have an Account Balance to track, you would need to use the Trading Evaluator Service. Second - you are also correct that if you connect to the Trading Evaluator you will not be connected to your CQG account. It is really your choice as to how you want to handle connecting to the Trading Evaluator. You can either switch back and forth in your one instance of Sierra Chart, or you can have two different installations and have one connected to CQG and the other to the Trading Evaluator. Here are the things to think about: - If you are just going to do simulated trading and no live trades, and then do just live trading when you are ready, then just use the one instance and change the connection to the Trading Evaluator while doing simulated trading and then change it to CQG when you are ready. Each time you switch services make sure you answer Yes to the question about updating symbols, or select Edit >> Translate Symbols to Current Service. - If you are going to do Simulated Trading and then start up your live trading while still doing some simulation, then you probably should have two different installations, one for the live account and one for the simulated account. Refer to the following for how to install a second Sierra Chart: Using Multiple Data and Trading Services at the Same Time: Step-By-Step Instructions to Install Multiple Copies of Sierra Chart You would then want to copy your Chartbooks and possibly your configuration file from the main instance to the new instance. Refer to the information at the following link for information on the various files and what they contain and information on how to copy them to the new instance: Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation: Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |
