Hi,

I am really tapping out the RAM on my system. I'm on Win 7 Ultimate, so I am aware that this limits App RAM to around 4GB.
I am using spreadsheets...30 or so with no more than 50 lines..
Is there any way I can get around this? My guess is that I'd be good if SC could access around 8GB or so.

Regards

You just have to install more than one copy of Sierra Chart on your system.

Each will have access to about 3 GB of memory.

HI,

I am using 3 copies now... What's the most important thing I can do to slim up the RAM usage?

Reducing the number of days to load in a chart will reduce memory usage. But the operating system can also be using a lot of memory used by caching the data read from the data files.

Yes, I am using tick data so that may have an effect.

I have another (BIG) issue right now....

It seems that my spreadsheets were not saving from the file menu. After I realized this, I saved from the workbook explorer.
At some point my spreadsheets crashed i.e. OUT OF MEMORY - UNHANDLED EXCEPTION

Upon trying to reopen my file, the spreadsheed is missing my master sheet and all of the study sheets are renamed.

What happened here?

Steven,

Thank you for your solution ...Worked like a charm.
With all of these suggestions (cutting down days) I'm now experiencing optimal performance.

Thanks again!

I would like to add a question to this, as I did not understand 100%.
Is SC limited to use 3/4 GB RAM on Windows 7?

Approximately 3 GB is the limit per instance of Sierra Chart.

This is not expected to change until 2015. There are a lot of technical considerations to this.

One more reason to have more than 3GB per SC instance is data mining when a lot of history involved.

I tried to load 4 years of intraday data and had 700k bars in a chart. Also I had only few simple formulas in a spreadsheet study.
Basically I was not able to save spreadsheet study or calculate formula for all 700k, the limit of RAM was met and weird errors were occurring.
So if I want to gather stats for longer period I can't use SC. (in my case, maximum amount of bars I could process was ~300k)

Everyday we will have more and more data and its analysis is part of successful trading, for sure operations with huge data volumes will be involved more often in future.

when I use 2 instances of SC, can I use the same data folder? = the same source for charts, etc.? Or does every instance need to use its own data folder?

There is no limit. Or it is so large it is not of concern.
