One more reason to have more than 3GB per SC instance is data mining when a lot of history involved. I tried to load 4 years of intraday data and had 700k bars in a chart. Also I had only few simple formulas in a spreadsheet study. Basically I was not able to save spreadsheet study or calculate formula for all 700k, the limit of RAM was met and weird errors were occurring. So if I want to gather stats for longer period I can't use SC. (in my case, maximum amount of bars I could process was ~300k) Everyday we will have more and more data and its analysis is part of successful trading, for sure operations with huge data volumes will be involved more often in future.
