[Locked] - Screen flickering (disappearing/reappearing)

A couple weeks ago I noticed some of my screens will intermittently flicker. When I've watched them as it happens I can see my Window's background. So they're essentially disappearing and reappearing. I can't seem to identify any specific action causing it. It happens when I'm not touching my keyboard or mouse, and it also happens when I'm working on a chart.

It started happening a couple weeks ago on a Monday. I'm assuming something graphically was changed during an update as I always do my updates on Sunday night.

Also, NO settings have been changed on my platform. This just started happening out of the blue on a Monday. Can't remember if it was 2 or 3 weeks ago. I had hoped it would disappear after a few updates. It hasn't.

I've never seen this glitch in over a year of using this platform. Nothing ever "flickered" once.

Any ideas?

Are these Detached charts, or are you seeing this within the main Sierra Chart window?

The one thing we want you to try is to either turn on or off the OpenGL setting (i.e. change it from whichever way you currently have it) and see if that makes a difference. Refer to the setting here:
Graphics Settings: Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics (Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other)

Do you have enough RAM in your GPU?

That causes a problem for me before.

You can check when you open TASK MANAGER - PERFORMANCE the click on GPU

If you cap your Dedicated GPU memory, that might be your problem right there, as it was the problem I had.

They are detached charts.

I imagine I have enough ram. I have dual video cards (6 monitors) and this is a dedicated (fairly new) trading machine. The only thing I'm running is Sierra and a couple browser windows.

Again, this started happening "out of the blue".

I will follow both of your advice tomorrow and report back.

Thanks!

Another thing I would try is to use different Instances of Sierra charts for different Video Card,

Meaning: Let's say that On video cards one you have 3 monitors, I will only use one or multiple instances that are dedicated to those monitors
and vise versa.

And when I am using multiple instances, I always keep the main instance with no charts - I think it helps.

Will wait for your update tomorrow.

Well I tried the Open GL setting and that's a no-go. Mouse was acting laggy and the text is a little weird. I
did notice the GPU processor usage was shared between the two cards more evenly, but my cards weren't getting stressed w/ Open GL set to "off".

I have 2 GB's per card of dedicated memory and 8 GB's of shared. It barely registers a blip of usage.

I noticed that it's mostly the same two detached windows that flicker. They are on the same monitor as
my DOM and T&S windows. I have those charts set to "Always On Top". I like the border of those windows covering up the border of the T&S windows. I toggled it off and on and it seems like the flickering stopped for a while.

Could that have something to do with it?

Regardless, it just started happening out of the blue. Never a flicker in over a year and my detached screens have been in the same place forever. Basically no settings have changed for over 10-12 months.

Oh, and I only use one instance of Sierra Chart. Never two. I've got 10 windows (all detached on 6 monitors) as well as a DOM, and two time & sales.

Specs:
i5-9600K 3.7Ghz
16GB ram
SSD
2x Nvidia GT 710

Well this is embarrassing. I think I discovered the cause of the flickering. I started keeping an instance of ThinkOrSwim open so I could monitor some options around a few weeks back. Today I decided to leave it off and the intermittent flickering stopped. That program is so clunky. User error! >_<

I hate to even ask this but... any reason why it is interfering w/ Sierra's charts? There's never any flickering on ThinkOrSwim.

Right before I closed TOS I was having some Sierra charts flickering. I was drawing on a completely different Sierra chart than the ones flickering. I wasn't touching the TOS application. GPU processer load was low.

Cant help you with the THINKorSWIM issues.

But you answer one of my question by telling that the load is split between both of you GPU :)

I will definitly grab another one here !

have a good day

I've been monitoring the issue a bit closer and it's happening even when ThinkOrSwim isn't open. In fact, it just happened a moment ago when I posted a bit of text to my screen. It definitely involves linked screens and it seems that the global cross-hair function exacerbates it. What's strange is when the linked chart flickers when I'm just sitting at my desk not even touching the mouse.

Any tips for troubleshooting? I can't unlink those charts though. I need them linked.

This is a system level issue.

This is not a Sierra Chart specific issue at all. It is a system level issue which we have no control over.

We have absolutely no idea how you would troubleshoot this or what you would do. This is a system level issue. It is not in any way a Sierra Chart issue. That is with certainty.

Are you saying this is a problem with Windows? Because it ONLY happens when Sierra Chart is open and with Sierra Chart windows. It has never occurred a single time with any other application.

I thought it had to do with ThinkOrSwim being open concurrently, but now I'm certain that's not the case. :(

Hello,

started to have exactly the same problem on detached chartbooks. Was wondering if you did find a solution for this.

same for me. No real RAM issues and separate Graphic card with a quite advanced PC set up.

many thanks

Did anyone ever find a solution for this?

I am facing the same and its driving me nuts.

It even reached the stage that I opened a case with Dell and they replaced the system board (which includes integrated UHD and nvidia GPU) with no luck :S
