Hi Support,

I'm hoping this is a simple question you can answer and help me. I will give you very detailed info here below.

I'm trying to compose the proper condition for an alert that will email me. When i get this email it's forwarded to my mobile phone as an SMS Text. I already have this forwarding part working just fine so don't be concerned with that part.

I am attempting to use the "Account Balance Text - External Service" Study and place a condition on the alerts tab for the study that i can have email me if my account balance drops below a threshold. For example if i have a $10k account balance i'd like to be alerted if my balance was to drop below $9k - signifying a -$1k draw down.

The reason i want to use this study like this is i have an automated system that trades but, i want to have a "safety net" alert that will email me if i step away from the computer and the autotrading malfunctions or has an error that results in a bunch of trading that could result in an account draining disaster.

I have tested this study and it does show the correct balance for my account. I have tested the alert and it does successfully email me but, i don't quite have the condition syntax right to evaluate the account balance properly.

I tried the condition "=SG1<10000" and it did work with the SIM account which had a balance showing of "0.00".

However, i tried the same with my real account (SIM off) which is more that $10k and it still evaluated to TRUE and emailed me when it should not have. I assume my condition syntax is not right.

Can you help me with what condition syntax will work with this particular study for evaluating account balance?

This "safety net" alerting and monitoring of account balance is very important to me as sometimes i may autotrade a market like oil starting a few hours before i am awake (i'm on West Coast of USA) and i don't want to have an account draining disaster from a malfunction or something unexpected.

Please let me know if you have any questions of me on what i am trying to accomplish. I really hope this is simple and you can help me. Thank you.

The main concern we have is whether the particular backend trading platform you are using, Rithmic, provides frequent account balance updates. If not, then your method will not work.

The problem is the Account Balance Text-External Service study does not fill in a study Subgraph which the alert formulas makes reference to. We will support this in the next release.

I believe Rithmic/VISION Financial (my broker) does update the account balance immediately when a trade closes. If you can support this somehow in a future version it would be much appreciated. I am very concerned autotrading without some kind of minimal account monitoring for those times when i step away from the computer temporarily.

Thank you.

Sierra Chart does support the Rithmic account balance data. Whenever the Rithmic system provides an account balance update, Sierra Chart will updates its account balance data for the trade account.

Hi support,

Can you tell me if the change to the "Account Balance Text - External Service" Study as discussed above made it into this latest build? Checking because you had said "will support this in the next release". Hopefully it was not a lot of work. Thank you.

Alright i just tested this and i have a question. I'm hoping this almost never triggers so i can use it as is right now but, is there any way to have it trigger only once? It seems to send 3 emails and alerts and i think that is per bar when i'm using the only setting that i see that is restricting -- the "trigger once per bar".

Just asking... i appreciate even being able to get anything.

Well damn.. i guess i spoke too soon. It is alerting me when it should not. The formula below should have evaluated to false as i have more than 9500 in the account. Any thoughts on why it might be evaluating to true when it should not?

Alert - Chart: YMH4-CBOT 3 renko #3 | Study: Account Balance Text - External Service | Formula: SG1<9500 is TRUE. | Last Price: 16386 | Bar Start Time: 2014-01-08 13:16:39 | Alert: AlertSound (2)

Go into the Study Settings window for that study. Go to the Subgraphs tab and enable Display Name and Values in Chart Values Window.

Go to Window >> Chart Values Window. Do you see the Account balance displayed for the study?

You should also modify your formula to make sure the balance is greater than 0 as well to ensure you even have a balance to work with.
