Hi - I'm trying to use the TPO Value Area Lines study to automatically plot on my intraday chart the TPO value area high and low from the previous RTH session. I trade oil, so I've set my chart up (a 320 trades chart) with two sessions, being 07:00-12:29:59 for RTH then 12:30-06:59:59 for the overnight session. I'm only interested in the previous day's RTH value area high and low and I need those lines to extend through the following overnight session through the end of the next RTH session. I've worked through the settings and the study guide but I'm afraid I can't get it working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Simon |

In order to do this you will need to create a separate chart with just the RTH session in it. Then apply the TPO Value Area Lines study to that chart with the setting for Reference n Periods Back set to 1. Refer to the documentation for this study here: TPO Value Area Lines Then use the Study/Price Overlay to display those Value Area Lines on your primary chart that has both RTH and Evening sessions. Refer to the following documentation for the Study/Price Overlay: Study/Price Overlay Study You can also hide the RTH only chart if it is not something you will use, except to get these lines. Refer to the following to do this: Window, CB and CW Menus: Hide Window (Window) Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Thank you. That works to display the previous RTH TPO value area lines on the following day's RTH-only chart. However, when I overlay that study onto my 23hr 320 trades chart it doesn't recalculate those lines until the next day's RTH session begins; I need those lines to start at the end of the RTH session and extend through the following overnight session through the end of the next RTH session on my 24hr chart. Is that possible please? Cheers Simon |

Sorry, we forgot one important item. You need to set the Study/Price Overlay Input for Bar Time Matching Method to Containing Match. This will then use the last data point forward through the evening session until the next data point is available from the other chart.

Thanks John. I changed that setting but I'm afraid it's still not plotting the last RTH session's TPO value area high and low through the following evening session. I've attached my settings for the two studies and an annotated chart illustrating the issue. Any further ideas greatly appreciated! Cheers Simon |

The only way we can think to do this would be to add the Spreadsheet Study into the mix. Here is what you need to do: - Set the TPO Value Areas Lines input for Reference n Periods Back to 0. - Hide the Study/Price Overlay study, which should now be showing the current days TPOs. - Add the Spreadsheet Study. - Put a formula similar to the following into cell K3. =IF(OR(FRACTIME(A3) > TIME(13, 30, 00), FRACTIME(A3) < TIME(07, 59, 59)), AB3, AB31)
You will have to adjust the times to match your chart, where the times inside the OR, are the evening session times. Also note that cell AB31 in the above is where the day session starts. You will need to adjust it for your particular chart. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

We are going to add a new Input to the TPO Value Area Lines study for it to support being based on only the day session times or regular trading hours. In this way, you do not need any other additional studies or charts. It becomes very simple to use for what you want. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
