Hello Support New user so please forgive if I'm wasting valuable time Added a few items to the control bar last week (fibs, line tools, etc.) After a week of chartbook buildout Microsoft updates rebooted my system unplanned Upon reloading noticed those custom control bar items not populating all instances/chartbooks, but did see at least one instance that did show those added controlbar shortcuts Today just saved all chartbooks and rebooted, now the control bar is back to plain defaults for all chartbooks so just curious if I missed anything Appreciate any direction |

Just a suggestion, your control bar settings are contained in the Sierra3.cfg file. If you look in your SierraChart main folder, you'll see a Backup folder. Within that folder you should see backups of your Sierra3.cfg file. Choose a recent date and try replacing the same file in your main SierraChart folder (you may want to back that one up first). You "should" get your missing Control Bar settings back. Also, don't have Sierra running when you replace this file. -- Scott Date Time Of Last Edit: 2018-08-18 20:22:45

thank you for the prompt reply attempted the backup files but looks like no go for those settings it appears my problem was multiple instances I was not aware that new a file tree are created per instance which is kind of a mess now currently have 3 additional instance folder and not aware which chartbook was setup in which instance, should be fun clean up would be nice to not have this kind of file structure for saved chartbook revisions in random instance folders as opposed to the root sierra folder but I'll figure it out :D |

Upon reloading noticed those custom control bar items not populating all instances/chartbooks This is not clear what you mean exactly.Today just saved all chartbooks and rebooted, now the control bar is back to plain defaults for all chartbooks so just curious if I missed anything The only reason we can think of is why there would be a problem is if somehow the main configuration file were reset or changed.

This is not clear what you mean exactly. Sierra chart can run more than one instance. Now I have a root C:Sierra folder and additional instance folders with random chart study updates. Why would chart studies start a new save tree per instance as opposed to the root folder. That just causes fragmented chart study saving and it appears control bar saves also. Your second quoted concern was already addressed. The remaining question is, regarding new instance chart study/control bar/etc saved changes are trapped in that new instance file tree as opposed to saving to the main root file folder. Thank you again |

Each Sierra Chart instance uses its own settings after the instance is created and that is the intended design. We cannot answer further questions about this. If you want to maintain the same settings, then do not use additional instances. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Another answer could possibly be, while each instance does create its own file folder for chartbook/ .cfg saves, one can simply select a different or originating file folder when opening/saving/migrating chartbook/ .cfg files to that new instance folder via: File/Open Chartbook then select Folder to access the appropriate saved files from the correct folder. One will likely need/want to keep saving relevant file changes to the same folder but that becomes its own animal dependent on the users active needs. Cheers |
