Hello Sierra Chart I would like to know which version of Windows Sierra Chart is most tested and will run flawless/rock solid, and which version of Windows do you guys recommend. Windows 7 or 10? Home or Professional? And please add support for Linux it could be Debian, Ubuntu or Mint… in the future please. Also how many years of historical data if I signed for Sierra Chart Real-Time and Historical Exchange Data Feed do I get? I am looking for as much data as I can get, like minimum of 30 years for US Treasury Bonds and Equity Indices futures for example. Thank you |

1. It is recommended to go with the latest release (Current Version): Software Download: Software Download 2. At the moment we would recommend Windows 7 over 10. You should not see a difference between Home and Professional. 3. Work is being done on native support for other Operating Systems. You can currently use Sierra Chart with Wine on Linux. Refer to: Run Sierra Chart on GNU/Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X using Wine 4. Regarding Historical Data refer to the What is Included section here: Sierra Chart Historical Data Service: What is Included Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Thank you, I see but regarding [3]. [3] Well previously by reading the forum here SC Engineers did not recommend using Wine and they said that there will be problems, so they recommend to stay away from doing that. Could you please explain more on: “Work is being done on native support for other Operating Systems. You can currently use Sierra Chart with Wine on Linux.” Now you are recommending it on the basis of what, can you please elaborate more? |

No further comment in regards to post #3. We should not have even provided an answer.

If you can not comment on this: Run Sierra Chart on GNU/Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X using Wine So why it is in there on your web site in first place then, does it work properly or not? Because if it does not work properly you should not provide the instructions and information, and if it is in there I am assuming that now it is working properly which contradicts to what SC engineers have said in the past. That is why I asked for more information and now you are saying that you should not even provided a answer, just think about it. |

Then you should have stated there that: "If you have to ask questions about it we will decline support" and you are on your own.

I use v1689 on Win7, which seems to be reliable. There may be fixes in later releases for things that I'm unaware of but so far I've not experienced any major problems. I now avoid taking the new releases until I have reason to believe they have a fix I need, or a feature I really want. It would be great if Sierra would branch their source to separate Stable releases from versions with the newly implemented features.
