Hello,

I updated SC to version 1598 but some of the charts I have open are blank. I've tried removing all the studies from the charts and restarting SC but no luck.

I submitted a ticket and received the following reply. I tried that but I still have blank charts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Re-download the data in the chart with "Edit >> Delete All Data and Download".

So is the EURUSD chart blank? The data download looks good.

Yes. I have four EURUSD charts open which are all blank (volume is displayed). I also have a NAS100 chart open which is ok.

The blank chart you showed is of the symbol USDX.

Go to that chart and select Chart >> Reset Scales.

If that does not help, then open a new chart for that symbol or whatever symbol is blank. Do you see the chart bars for the symbol in the new chart?

I'm aware that the image is the symbol USDX. I took that screenshot this morning. I can take a screenshot of EURUSD if you like. I've spent the whole day trying to get the charts to load. I tried Chart > Reset Scales on all the charts. Two of the charts were restored but two of them were not.

It looks like the problem is caused by the Price Scales.

There is an option to make the Chartbook private when you attach it and that is what we recommend.

But if you do not want to provide the Chartbook, then the other thing we recommended is just closing the charts that are not displaying chart bars and opening new ones.

Ok, thanks. I closed the blank charts and opened new ones and it seems ok now. I had a custom study developed which I added to the charts before they went blank. Could a custom study cause the charts to go blank? Also, is there anyway of viewing study errors that the custom study might be throwing up?

Yes possibly if there is some error they are causing. Refer to help topic 17:
Sierra Chart Unexpectedly Shutting Down | Memory Errors | Unusual Software Problems | Exception Errors | Freezing of User Interface

You might want to recompile/rebuild them.

Also, is there anyway of viewing study errors that the custom study might be throwing up?
If it causes an exception, that will be displayed in Window >> Message Log.

Ok, thanks. I found the following. Could that be causing the issue?

Notice: The study 'Custom Moving Average' has sc.FreeDLL set to true. Use only during development! Set to false to reduce CPU time. | 2017-08-22 10:46:41

No, that is not the problem but you definitely should set that to false.

Ok, thanks. I found the following error. Is that anything to worry about?

EURUSD [M] 60 Min #4 | BitBlt error. Windows error code 6: The handle is invalid. | 2017-08-23 09:37:43
[2017-08-23 14:37:01]
Sierra Chart Engineering - Posts: 104368
That kind of error is unrelated and not a concern.

It is an error at the operating system level related to graphics. Apparently there are circumstances, where the device context handle is not considered valid.
