Interactive Scaling Range - Expand/Compress Scale feels odd to pull down to expand

from Help: "You are able to left click and drag with your Pointer up and down in the Values Scale on the right side of the chart expand and compress the scale."

My question: It feels a bit counter-intuitive to place my cursor arrow on the value scale near the top of the chart and then having to move up to see more of the top of the chart. Pull down to compress (zoom out) / Push up to expand (zoom in) seems more natural and the way other platforms I have used work. Maybe you could program an option to have the cursor work either way. It seem that I want to see more of the upper part of the chart than the bottom for some reason.

As a long time TradeStation, ThinkorSwim and Metatrader user I find your platform to be a great tool and my preferred. Awesome customizability of the interface and drawing tools. Great for the self-directed trader using drawing the analyze the Market.

Thanks

It sounds like what you want to instead use is Interactive Scale Move:
Chart Scale and Scale Adjusting: Interactive Scale Move - Move Scale Up and Down

Thank you for the comment.

Thanks for the quick reply but I guess that I did not communicate my frustration clearly. In the physical world you push down on something to compress it and conversely you pull up on something to expand it. However in Sierra Charts that motion is reversed in the Interactive Scale Range function in the chart value area. Other platforms respond intuitively but in Sierra Charts I have to stop myself and move opposite my natural inclination to get the result that I want. I draw price retracements all day long and often need to see more of both sides of the charts and pulling down in the sidebar should reveal more of the overall chart not hide it. Maybe an option could be programmed to make this a user choice. Thanks

We understood exactly what you want, but we gave you instructions which we thought would help to accomplish what you want.

We are just hesitant to add an option to change this.

The current logic is that the downward movement is actually reducing the range of displayed prices. So down means reduce in this particular case.

Hey, Okay. You guys own the ball, the bat and the field, So if I want to play you make the rules. No need to argue. Let's be friends. Maybe I'm the first one to bring this feature to your attention, So, down cursor movement means zoom in / reduce view of price action and up cursor movement means zoom out / increase view of price action. But my cursor is usually at the top of chart when I want to more of chart and when I grab the value scale area I have to move to the middle of the area and then hold left up and move up. Seem that I spend more time at the top of the chart than the bottom. No problem, it's not a big adjustment to make.

I do like the feature where you can set the left click/hold the interactively move the chart but exactly where I found that menu option escapes me now. I do understand that adding options adds to the complexity of the menu labyrinth.

The program is great! Keep up the good work!

If you are referring to Interactive Scale Move, refer to:
Chart Scale and Scale Adjusting: Interactive Scale Move - Move Scale Up and Down

There is also the Hand tool:

Set to 'interactive scale range' when I drag down on the scale my range is increased, and when I drag up on the scale, my range is decreased.

I understand the logic behind the decision after reading the response;

The current logic is that the downward movement is actually reducing the range of displayed prices. So down means reduce in this particular case.

Range goes up, chart gets shorter. Range goes down, chart gets longer. Perhaps whether or not it is intuitive depends on whether the user is focused on the scale, or the chart when adjusting.

I also would appreciate a setting to invert this behavior.

This still not possible to reverse? Only platform I’ve used that has it this way. Hard to change the habit. Especially when still using other platforms and needing to alternate depending on which account you’re using. One of those little things but still, little annoyance throughout the day

place my cursor arrow on the value scale near the top of the chart

I prefer the way Sierra works.

I also place my cursor on the bottom of the chart when interacting usually and it makes a lot more sense that way as well. (to me/IMHO)
Place it at the top/middle and drag down to see fewer price (more details)
Place it at the middle/bottom and drag up to see more prices (fewer details)

We thought we added an option to control this. We will check on that.

If it is not there it should not be an issue to add this.

It does not look like we have added the option. So we will put this in the next release.
