[Locked] - Reliability of Data Downloaded after error in the log

Hello SC Support,

I have had multiple events where there have been errors in the log after downloading data such as out of order timestamps and CTS T4 Service: Exception caught in OnChartDataComplete: Buffer cannot be null. I have been told by support to wait for FIX so that these problems could be addressed, however these problems have been around since March and being that T4 only allows 90 days of download I have questions about the data I have already amassed.

1. Can the data with errors affect how the Sierra Chart software runs?
2. Can the data with errors affect other data files?
3. Can the data with errors affect the download of other data files?
4. Can the data with errors affect the Real-time intraday chart data file updates of other data files?
5. Can it affect the trade execution that occurs in instruments of other data files?
6. When new data is downloaded and added to the data file that had errors to begin with is it reliable if there were no errors in the log during the latest download?
7. When new data is added from the Real-time intraday chart data file updates to the data file that had errors to begin with is it reliable if there were no errors in the log during the latest streaming update? In this particular instance should trade execution be a concern?

Questions 6&7 will at least help me know that the data downloaded from a certain point forward is reliable. Additionally, I make the distinction between downloading data and Real-time intraday chart data file updates because I noticed especially with the out of order timestamp problem that downloading data had more instances of errors than the real-time streaming update.

On a completely unrelated matter, I would also like to know if my data is reliable if during download the Sierra Chart freezes for a moment. It freezes sometimes when I am trying to scroll through the message log when it is downloading data or when I open a chartbook and the chartbook is loading previous data and downloading new data at the same time. It always comes out of the freeze with no errors in the message log but I want to be sure that the data is reliable, both the already existing data (since it gets compressed before the download) and the new data.

Thank you in advance for helping me better understand Sierra Charts

This is one out of literally numerous reasons why we are discontinuing API components. They really are terribly awful. Please refer to:

We are no longer going to be quiet about API components. We simply tell the truth of them in help topic 76.

The freezing you are referring to and the errors you are referring to have to do with the T4 API component.

We finally are coming out with our version that no longer uses it, later today.

The simple answer to all of your questions, is that chart data errors only cause a problem with what you visually see in the chart and studies that use the chart data, will be affected by those values since they use those values. Other than that, rest assured there is no issue and we cannot take more time on these questions.

When historical data is downloaded, as long as the last Date-Time in the chart is correct, out of order timestamps will not be a problem. Other than affecting studies, and drawing tools, that is the only potential problem that out of order timestamps can cause.

In no case, is trading ever affected.

You need to understand we are very busy, and can only take so much time on extensive questions like these. It literally takes time away from our development . There is no one who can answer these other than the engineers who do the programming. We have no control over data comes from other systems or proprietary API components.

Version 998 which uses a FIX connection to CTS has now been released. It is a prerelease.

We have done a lot of testing and everything should be working properly.

Thank you for your patience. We know it has been a while, but our focus is and has been on lot of critical development we need do and have been completing over the recent months.
