Hi,

I have a chart here trying to apply the zig zag study. I've set it to show the HL text but it's not displaying properly.
Using the default calculation method 2. I've tried switching it to any one but it doesn't show up like my other charts.

Any ideas?

Cheers

This chart is not acceptable and does not meet our requirements. Refer to the instructions here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#Image

Also tell us what the Input settings are for the Zig Zag study. It is best to check each one first. And refer to the documentation for this study.

Renko charts are not supported?

Input settings are all at default. Except I changed calculation method to 2.

Reversal 5 bars. % I think is the default at 0.01

A Renko Bar chart is fine. Just make sure the Graph Draw Type is set to Candlestick and remove all other studies from the chart before posting an image of it.

Refer to the documentation for this study here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_TechnicalStudiesReference.html#s133_Inputs

Set the Display HH,HL,LL,LH Labels Input to Yes.

We need to see the Zig Zag lines themselves and you need to refer to the documentation here for how the calculations work:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_TechnicalStudiesReference.html#s133

And then we need a detailed and precise technical explanation as to why you think the Zig Zag lines are not correct in relation to the written documentation and the relevant Input Settings being used.

Ever since v1042 the zig zag will usually not show correct values when the chart is first opened; This is my message to Support from 3 years ago regarding this issue, which is still unresolved no matter what product is used. I use range bars, BTW. I've just learned to live with the bug of having to click "hide study" and then uncheck it and it works fine from there on out:
"Hi - downloaded v1042 and the zig zag indicator all of the sudden doesn't work properly. I don't use the lines, but just where it shows the highs and lows for harmonic rotations - in other words, at each rotation it shows the price and the end of the leg and how many ticks. Since the update, when I load SC, it only shows a small handful of rotations. Each time I fire it up, I have to go into STUDIES and click "hide" for zig zag study, click APPLY and then uncheck HIDE and re-click APPLY and it works fine. I have to do this manually for each chart. I noticed on the update log you in fact changed something in that study a week ago - whatever you changed it causing this annoying bug. I've used ZZ study for a LONG time and never had this issue until this last update. Thanks in advance."

We do not see any technical reason for the behavior that you are describing.

Attach a Chartbook containing one chart with the zig zag study as explained here:

Also, we see no reason for you to go through the procedure that you do.

There should not be a reason for that.

However, if you want to recalculate the Zig Zag study you just need to select Chart >> Recalculate.

Even if the Zig Zag line is hidden, it should have no effect on the line labels at all.

Here is a screenshot of the settings

I would be very grateful if you can tell me what I am doing wrong, because I've spent too much time trying to get this to work.

I have the same settings on another chart (symbol) and it works fine
The above is a 5 min chart btw, thanks in advance

It does appear there is a problem we need to look into but once again tthe image in post #12 does not meet our requirements.

Provide an image following the instructions here and only use the method documented:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=PostingInformation.php#Image

Follow through each of the steps.

Actually, we realize you have set the input to reset the Zig Zag at the start of the day. So you will not see a label at the start of the day and at the first reversal.

And at this point, what exactly is the problem? We need a clear description based upon how the calculation method works.
