Hey guys, I have been trying to download the Sierra Charts for the free trial and I just cannot do so on my Windows 7 laptop. I have read the how to link for installation, read the help topic 24, downloaded the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, tried to Save file and clicked the icon of the downloads and also alternatively tried to run it off Internet Explorer directly (after deleting all previously downloaded versions) as opposed to saving it first, and it never goes anywhere. In the task manager a SierraChartSetupNoCLR process pops up every time, but nothing else happens and moreover I am unable to force end this process either, which is weird. Tried to run it as admin, and it makes no difference, nothing happens, besides appearance of the above mentioned process in task manager. Being just an average user, got no idea what to do. Tried to google around with no luck and for now I am helpless. Thank you for your help! |

No nothing happens. I deleted the downloaded file, restarted the computer, tried to run it which every way I could think of, different web browsers, downloaded into different folders, tried to run as administrator... No luck. Nothing ever appears besides the above mentioned process being run in the task bar. Actually, sometimes there is this process 3 times, after only clicking and trying to run it once. Somehow the process opens up 3x. And then I am unable to end the process through task manager, have to restart the computer to clear/close the sierrachartsetupnoclr process.

OK this is the first known instance of this in the history of using that installer which has been about 10 years. We will get back to you about this. For the moment, we are not going to be able to offer any solution for this. As we indicated, we have never had a problem report like this before. We recommend trying another computer. Otherwise, wait 2 to 3 months until we have a new installer ready. Also, this makes no sense: And then I am unable to end the process through task manager, have to restart the computer to clear/close the sierrachartsetupnoclr process.
Why would there be a problem terminating that process? It is completely contrary to the functioning of the operating system and its ability to terminate a program. Hello, Miraculously late last night I did manage to run install directly through Internet Explorer (same way I tried multiple times before). The only possible explanation is that there were some casual system updates waiting to be installed that I was not aware off, and that after installing the updates for some reason I was able to install Sierra. Although it might be very likely, I have no idea and it seem bit strange. It also does not make any sense to me, why I would be unable to terminate the Sierra installer process through the task manager before. Do not get me wrong, from the get go I suspected the problem to be on my side and not with Sierra Charts or its installer, I just wanted to know if you had any experience with it, given I did not find any info on my own (understandably so if it never happened). Fortunately it seems to be solved and I got the Sierra running now. Thank you for the help with this anomaly! |
