Hi SC, is it possible to program into sc a function which provides the horizontal line with a plus or minus the line level price? Eg. symbol CL: horizontal line @ 50.00, but alert sounds off @ 50.05 or 49.95. thx as always!

For this, you need to use the Line study and set a Simple Alert formula on it. thx again, but the overlay is exactly what it is though I need to have it in the background, because it blots out all chart data. I have tried to put the study above and below the other studies, but no change.

If you want to display it behind the chart bars, then enable the Draw Underneath Main Price Graph option in in the Study Settings window for the study: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ChartStudies.html#SettingsandInputsTab Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. I was successful with your directions. thank you. I still have some issues though. My reference chart is a one minute chart and apparently the study overlay restricts the target chart scaling and thus creates a sort of constant range scale. Is there a solution besides hiding the study on the target chart, only using the line study on higher timeframe charts, or a parameter for the reference chart to be set? Also, the size of the line on the target chart is much smaller than the reference chart ... also a solution? I appreciate the support!

All of this is very hard for us to comprehend unless we can see precisely what you are doing and all of the settings.

In one image we see a line with a value of 52.7 and in the image of the TPO charts we see a line with the value of 55.23. Why is there a difference? We are still not understanding the study configuration or exactly what we are looking at. You also say but this is not the case from the chart images you provided: My reference chart is a one minute chart
This is not clear for us?: study overlay restricts the target chart scaling and thus creates a sort of constant range scale.

The TPO chart is the base chart for the study price overlay on the 1-minute chart. The 55.23 line is part of the crosshairs. The two big lines in drab green are of concern. Take the largest line for example which shows a price range from 50.20 to 51.20. This same line when superimposed on the 1 min chart, example attached, is contracted to only a price range from 50.60 to 50.80. Should I understand the 1-minute chart should have a price scaling equivalent to the TPO chart? Would the challenge be resolved, if the horizontal line could have two parameters defining the price range? This would also allow easy movement of the line with the click and drag function. |

We are not understanding this. And we also do not know what image you are referring to. Also a horizontal line will never have more than a single price. It would have to be a rectangle for it to have two prices. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. I am trying to understand why the horizontal line alert is working strangely. The alert is activated for each bar even though the criteria has never been met. I have attached a screenshot

The comparison precision is not precise enough for the pricing of that particular symbol. It is .1. You will need to use .00001.
