Update: After the last post I saw the sticky on IB volume data. Okay now I understand more of what's going on. Tried to download manually the latest build (1344), however the file isn't there, neither is the prerelease version. The latest version that is downloadable is 1336. At least that fixed the problem with no able to connect with IB feed. With regards to the whole IB feed contract info debate. Here's my take on it: I would love to simply pay for SC market data feed and not have to worry about these feed issue again. As a matter of fact, this is exactly what I did for quite a few months earlier this year. I can confirm that the SC feed is rock solid and presumably more accurate than IB with regards to tick & volume info. The only problem I had is that on occasion, the market price in SC differed slightly from that of IB, which caused some issues in trade entry/exit. For example, let's say the current candle closed on its high at 100 in SC, I put on a buy stop order at 101, the rational being that I don't want to enter a trade unless/until price goes up another tick (ie. when 101 is reached). However, in IB, the same candle actually closed at 101, and when I put on that buy stop order at 101, I'm therefore entered immediately into a trade (which as you can imagine, ended up being the top tick of the day b4 dropping immediately). Had I been using IB data feed, I would have put the buy stop order at 102, which would not have been hit and avoided the potential loss. Thankfully, this type of situation doesn't happen very often, only on occasion (usually when price is moving quickly). But it does happen and did happen. And it hurts the bottom line when it does. From my perspective, it matters less which data feed is more accurate, the most important thing is that the two feeds must match 100% of the time, not 99.9%. This is why I switched back to IB feed, because as long as I'm using them as my broker and my orders are routed thru them, at least I know with regards with their market price, what I see is what I get, 100% of the time, even if it's not the most accurate data feed as far as what everyone else is seeing. It's all about execution. Hope this helps. Mark |
