I thought I'd lost the TAL a few times like you're describing.
It was there the whole time however I had to hover over the task bar icon for Sierra Chart, I could see it there in the detached charts list.
It doesn't minimize or restore the way the message log or alerts manager does. It also won't restore when you click TAL from the Trade menu.
It is a bit unintuitive, but once you know where to look, it is there. (unless of course it WAS offscreen)
