To use the latest chart-books (CB-M2 and CB-M3), i should always use sub-instance-2 with CB-M22 and sub-instance-3 with CB-M3- corrent?
What you need to understand is that when a sub-instance is first created, the chartbooks and settings from the Main Instance are copied to the sub-instance. But from that point forward the sub-instances are completely separate, and any changes you make in a sub-instance does NOT propagate to any other instance (main or otherwise). Refer to the following: Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance: Each Sub Instance is Independent How you want to handle the chartbooks from there is up to you. if that is the case, is there anyway that i rename the sub-instance-2 to something like "sub-instance-2 CB-2"- this will help me to make sure that i always use sub-instance-2 to open CB-M2 chart-book. and same with sub-instance-3 & CB-M3.
Sub-Instances can NOT be renamed. Sierra Chart has specific naming that is used to find the sub-instances, so do not change the folder names. when i change CB-M2 and CB-M3 in Sub-instance-2 and -3 respectively, then the chart-books CB-M2 & CB-M3 in main-instance do not get updated automatically, right?
Correct - per what we stated above. in this case, then there is NO reason to maintain those Chart-books in main-instances because those where changed/updated in the sub-instances, right?
This is a personal choice as to how you want to work. But the general idea is correct - in that if you are going to work with those chartbooks only in those sub-instances, then you would not need them in the other instances. if there a way that i can synchronize these chart book in individual sub-instances to main instances. this way, i can always point back to the main instances chartbooks in case, i mess-up with the sub-instance chart-books.
It is just a matter of copying them to the main instance Data folder. You just have to exit from all of your Sierra Chart instances first in order to ensure that the files are not being updated/modified when you copy them.
