The tools menu has nothing to do with being able to change the bar period with the keyboard. Make sure you have a chart active and do not have any other windows on top of it. Then select the "ESC" (Escape) key on your keyboard to ensure that the buffer that holds the text for changing bar periods is empty. Then, on your keyboard select '5' then 'm' then 'Enter'. This will change your bar period to 5 minutes. If it was already a 5 minute chart then enter '1', 'm', 'Enter' to change to a 1 minute chart. Let us know if this still does not work for you.
