What you are doing with the second instance is not a workaround, as you are just running in Simulation Mode.

The first thing to understand is that when you are connected to the Trading Evaluator you are performing your simulation within that environment. This is why the "Simulation Mode" is not available when you are connected to the Trading Evaluator.

You are able to put a sub-instance into Simulation Mode because it does not really know what trading service you are connected to, it connects to the primary instance and sends all the information through there.

It sounds like you do not have an account setup with the Trading Evaluator service. Please go through the Setup Instructions and either create a new account, or verify that you have an existing one that is properly setup:
