It only "links" the charts if the original chart had a Link Number and linking options setup. In that case, when you duplicate the chart, the link number and options are carried over to the new chart and the two charts will be linked based on the setup of the original chart. Since you mention Studies changing, then that implies that the link option for Studies is set in the original chart.
