Post From: Best SSD to put on Sierra Chart

Here's a different view. I've been doing this for about 10 years. Best performance by far: put SC's data directory on a ram disk and just back it up to an ssd or hdd every hour. This will also dramatically reduce "disk wear" as you replace huge numbers of small writes to the disk with a very few big ones. Similarly, put the cache for your browser on that ram disk. All this relies on is having enough memory to put aside a ramdisk for Sierra & Browser caches. So, how big is your SC data directory and do you have enough ram? If memory is tricky and you have a lot of data files that you don't update (maybe for testing/practice) then put them on the SSD and just symbolically link them to the Sierra Chart data directory. Note that you load your directories to the ramdisk on startup and copy them on shutdown. If you can't do a ramdisk: put Sierra's data directory on the least used ssd (assuming no big speed differences). If the most used ssd is also a lot faster than the other one this might not be best but why not start with the least used and see how it goes. Most of Sierra's activity is writing to those files in the Data directory so its probably the only one that you need to have in an optimal location but you can also just put the whole SC directory structure on the ramdisk if you're more comfortable with that. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ram-drives-faster-ssds-5-things-must-know/ Date Time Of Last Edit: 2021-12-29 21:56:37
