Recompiling is all that is necessary. In some cases some minor code updates are needed but that will be very obvious as the source code is compiled as to what to do. As long as you have the source code, then you just need to recompile the studies. As far as what is the earliest version that is currently supported we have to look that up but it is not going to be earlier than about 1550.
