Am I correct in thinking that the "Current Version" (v1746 today), is the same as the "Pre-Release" version plus some extra change(s)?
No this is not correct.

Both the current release and pre-release are always stable. It is a rare exception that there is any genuine instability.

Sometimes there are some issues with new features, or an area of the program we worked on that did not get caught in testing because we cannot always be aware of all usage scenarios but those would get resolved promptly once we are aware of them.

It is a rare exception, that there is any genuine stability issue with a current version or prerelease. And the likelihood of encountering a genuine stability issue is the same whether it is a current version or prerelease. And as we said, these are rare. And we continuously make improvements to avoid these to begin with.
