The formula entry window has an arrow button to make it bigger but that is not implemented yet. It will support multiple lines. There will also be a formula bar at the top to view the formula. Not clear what horizontal bar you are referring to but check the Show options on the Spreadsheet menu. We will think about the alert settings.
