Hi. I am attempting to resolve the issue that I posted about in another thread, so I have reinstalled Sierra Chart after copying out the chartbook and config files that I read about in the documentation. I was assuming that I would be able to re-open these once I reinstalled the software. The chartbook files seem to be working, although there are a few issues that I am still diagnosing.

However, when I first opened SC it gave me an error message that Sierra4.config is not a valid configuration file, and none of my global settings are loading. I have attached the file here if you can help diagnose it. I have spent weeks customizing SC so I'm really hoping the file isn't corrupted somehow.

That configuration file, it consists of just zero values. This is going to be an operating system problem that caused that issue.

Sometimes we see that occur with Windows.

You need to use a backup global configuration file. Refer to:

Thanks. Unfortunately I didn’t read about the backup folder files until after I reinstalled Sierra Chart. I thought that was the only file I needed. Very disappointing. Is there anything that can be done? And would you trust this computer again? I purchased this computer new solely for using Sierra Chart, and was sure to get the tech specifications that are recommended throughout this support board, but I’m wondering if it’s not the cause of some of the problems I’ve had.

Do you not have the original installation folder for Sierra Chart that has the Backups folder?

If you deleted it, then check your recycle bin and restore it.

When you restore it, you have to rename the folder your current installation of Sierra Chart is in, when it is not running, to some other name since the when you restore the original, it will not overwrite it.

Thanks, but unfortunately not. I didn’t just reinstall Sierra Chart, since nothing else was installed on it I restored windows as well. So everything was deleted. I tried to copy all of the files but it was giving me issues so I thought I was safe with just that config file. Lesson learned I guess. I’m pretty suspicious of this computer now.

Sierra Chart is very good at maintaining backups but if the entire Sierra Chart folder is gone and not recoverable then there is a problem.

Doubtful there is anything wrong with the computer, but you should run some hardware testing. These may be more operating system problems you are having.
