Hi,

I am trying to connect to my library's wifi but the connection gets rejected by SC. Is there a solution to this?

What do you mean the connection is rejected by SC? What exactly is occurring?

For what it is worth, I have used Sierra Chart in the library many times and never had a problem. But not all libraries are equal, so there could be something being blocked by your library system.

I just sent the log for analysis.
Basically I think the highlighted lines are where the connection fails:

2024-10-22 16:24:21.494 | HTTPS connection ID:1 to www.sierrachart.com:443 for request ID:1 (1) | CloseSocket call.
2024-10-22 16:24:21.495 | HTTPS connection ID:1 to www.sierrachart.com:443 for request ID:1 (1) | Shutdown started. Waiting for graceful close.
2024-10-22 16:24:21.677 | HTTPS connection ID:1 to www.sierrachart.com:443 for request ID:1 (1) | Socket gracefully closed by remote side.

It used to work before (last time I tried was a few months ago). Does it have anything to do with public vs private network?

Sierra Chart is not rejecting the connection at all. That is impossible. Sierra Chart has no ability to reject the connection.

You need to troubleshoot this on your side. Check third-party security software, and try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall.

You are getting the following in your log:
2024-10-22 16:54:42.098 | DTC Client socket (5) | Close event error. Windows error code 10053: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

There is something causing a problem with your connectivity. Most likely it is the ports that are available from the library, but we really can not say. The information regarding this error is at the following link:

I just had an interesting observation which is puzzling me even more.

I have multiple instances of Sierra Chart, and each instance is running only one instrument (so one chartbook on each instance). I just noticed that my MAIN instance is the one that has this issue and not connecting to the data feed, but all the other instances are all connected and working perfectly. Is this even possible? I thought the connection to data feed for the other instances are sourced from the main instance!

So it is not the library internet or a software on my laptop that is blocking the connection. Something is going on with my SC setup/settings. Any ideas?

If these other instances are sub-instances started by using "File >> Find Symbol" then the data does flow from the main instance to the sub-instances. If these are completely separate installations, then each installation gets the data separately.

It is not possible for a sub-instance to be getting the data and the main instance not getting the data.

Open a chart in the main instance for an instrument you have open in one of the sub-instances and see what occurs.

My sub instances are not separate installations. I initiated all of them through File>New Instance.

That is why I was surprised because I know my sub instances get their data from the main instances. But while my main instances was showing "trying to reconnect", all of my sub-instances started printing candles a few minutes after market opened at 6:00PM EST today. I know it does not make sense but I watched them doing this for 20 minutes before I send this message.
I disconnected and reconnected my internet connection hoping my main instance starts working too. And now all of them have stopped again. At least for now.

We really do not know. But if they are all not working now, then that at least makes sense, although it not what you want to hear.

In the end, apparently there is something about the way the library network is setup that does not allow for the use of Sierra Chart. Most likely this is due to closing off ports except for the most basic ones.

The thing to try is to connect from another public WiFi, such as at Starbucks, and see if you have a problem there as well.

I am sorry, but one more question on this.

I noticed that although my Sierra Chart on the main instance is showing "Reconnect Wait" and the message log shows that the connection is not established, in reality there is a connection! Because the sub-instance candles are printing, and the main instance candles are printing too but not shown! In other words, the "Current Price Line" that shows the last printed price keeps moving around but the platform fails to print the candles! So when I refresh the chart using Chart>Reload and Recalculate, the missing candles appear up to that point. In other words, the puzzle is why my platform does not show connection to data feed although data is coming through, and why the candles stop printing on the main instance only while the current price line is moving around.

Is this something you guys may have seen before?

Thank you

It sounds like you have a partial connection to the data feed, but not to the trading service. We have not heard of something like this before.

In the end, if you do not have a problem at home, and this issue only exists with the library Wi-Fi, then it is something about the network setup at the library that is causing the issue.
