Hi All, I am using extended rectangles to mark my areas of interest. I configured these rectangles to trigger an alert once the price is equal/crossing the boundaries. The alert usually works well for some time, then suddenly I stop getting the alerts without any change in configuration from y side. The alerts window also stops showing the crossing/equal event. I have been having this issue for quite some time now and I am not able to figure it out. Attached are the settings I am using. Since it is not even showing in the alerts log, I am stuck and don't know how to troubleshoot this, The exact same alert settings on a simple horizontal line work without any issues. Can you give me any advice on how to investigate this further to find the root cause? |

Is this during a replay that you are having issues? We do see that with a Double Extended rectangle that alerts will not occur prior to the first anchor point. After that, the alerts will work fine. If not the above, then can you think of anything in particular occurring when it stops working? Is the price inside of the rectangle and you are looking for an alert when it moves out? Does it work when price is below and moves up into the rectangle, but not when above and moving down? Anything along the lines above will help us to narrow this down. But we do need something to work from, as we do not see anything apart from the replay issue that might be occurring. Hi John, there is not a particular scenario that I was able to conclude which makes the extended rectangle alerts stop working. when I delete/re-add the non-working rectangle it works again for a while then it stops. Because I am not able to reliably re-produce it, this is why I was asking of how is the best way to troubleshoot it. For example can the logging level be changed to include more information on what is happening when the price crosses the boundaries? Is there any error log that I can check? etc... |

When you have this occur again, please do not delete the rectangle right away. First, get us the chart by following these instructions: Support Board Posting Information: Providing Chartbook with Only a Single Chart We'll see if we can reproduce the issue from there. Hi John, the rectangle alerts stopped working a few times and hadn't captured the CB. Today it happened again and I saved the chart. Attached is the single chart, in my case the alerts on the horizontal lines are working, while crossing rectangle does not. note: (in case it matters) - nothing is showing in the alerts window - these rectangles are copied to other charts in the chartbook Regards Date Time Of Last Edit: 2024-01-26 19:07:13

We are having to run a replay at this time (there are only 10 more minutes before the exchange closes for the weekend) and when we do this, we do not see any problems. The alerts are occurring as they should. Can you please try a replay from today's data and see if you see the same thing. Let us know if you properly get the alerts when a bar crosses into our out of the Extending Rectangle. We will try to watch this on Monday and see if it will reproduce in real-time. Hi John, the issue keeps happening in my case to the point where I am thinking of giving up on extended rectangles completely as I can't rely on them for alerts because they randomly atop working. Since you are not able to re-produce it, can you direct me to any detailed way of troubleshooting this? (for example, increase the logging level, check certain log files...etc.) Alternatively, we could also do a remote troubleshooting session when the issue happens next time. Unfortunately, we can not think of anything to do beyond what we have already tried. The one thing we are wondering is if you have the same problem with a replay. Can you please try running a replay and see if it works for you during replay or not. We just looked at this again with real-time data, and we are not seeing any issues. We are getting the alert as expected. Can you also try this with a line and see see if that works for you. HI John, as mentioned before, there are no issues with the horizontal line alerts, only with the rectangle. There is no difference when using replay or live data. either both work or both don't. One thing I am suspicious of is that I put the configuration to "alert once per bar" and the rectangle is on a TPO chart which doesn't really have bars. Would this cause any issues? Yes, this would definitely be the cause. We kept removing the TPOs to have a simplified chart for testing, which is why were not seeing it (or thinking of it). But we tested again with your chart with the TPOs and as you suggested, there is an initial alert, then no more, and there is no bar timing to cause a reset. You may not want to use the alerts on the TPO by turning off the option for "Alert Once per Bar", as you will then get a number of alerts when the price is right at the rectangle edge, although setting it to crossing should help. But you might want to setup another chart with a specific bar period to get the alerts. Hi John, Would you see any potential issue with the below: - CREATE the extended rectangle on a regular CANDLESTICK chart - COPY chart drawings from candlestick chart to a TPO chart - I can modify/move the rectangle on the TPO chart (like I wanted originally) - the alert condition would be evaluated based on the bar in the candlestick chart being equal/crossing the rectangle borders - If I use (alert once per bar) on the alert, When a new bar forms on the candlestick chart the alert condition is active again and I should be getting the alerts if the bar once again equals/crosses the rectangle borders |

Yes, this is what we are suggesting. You do not need to copy it to the TPO, unless you want to. But the alerts themselves will be coming from the candlestick chart.

Hi John, I actually need the rectangle levels based on some things on the TPO chart (how it was on the original chartbook I shared). problem was that the alerts would stop working. So by creating the rectangle / alerts on the bar chart, then copying it to the TPO chart, this means I can use it on the TPO chart to mark the areas I want but the alert would still keep working because they are no longer based on the TPO chart but rather on the bar chart. Thanks for your support in getting to the bottom of this.. I was almost losing hope :) |
