Hi guys,

Its my first time setting up simple alerts. I read the section Study/Alerts And Scanning but Im stuck trying to get an alert to trigger for Total Volume. (pic 1)

I don't know how to recreate the formula so I tried to link the alert to when the colour is highlighted but I don't think "In:21" works the way sub graph links do. (pic 2)

You mentioned youre willing to help out people with simple formula issues in the Support Policy page, hopefully this is simple enough.

Thanks

You can not set an alert based on an Input, nor can you do it based on coloring. You have to use the underlying information to create the alert.

What exactly do you want the alert to do? Just give us the wording of what you want to accomplish and we can help you from there (do not give us any solutions - just tell us what you actually want).

Hi John,

I currently have the Total Volume from Numbers Bars Calculated Values highlight in colours when the ranges are hit (pic 1 above). I want to create a specific sound alert that triggers the same time each colour highlights. So one sound alert for Range 2 and another for Range 3.

Thanks

This gets a bit tricky, as the levels are determined by the range of the values and you would have to recreate that.

How many days do you have loaded in your chart?

What is the Input for the Numbers Bars Calculated Values for "Determine Maximum/Minimum Values for Background From" set to?

Daily Data and I also have the days loaded on the chart set to 1. I'm only interested in today.

That definitely simplifies things.

In this case you will want to use the "Spreadsheet Study" to get the data you need. Add the Spreadsheet Study and set the Input for "Number of Rows" to be more than the number of bars that will be in your chart for the 1 day (for instance, if you use 1 minute bars, then you would have approximately 1440 bars (1440 minutes in one day), but the CME Group is closed for 1 hour per day, so this would cover the full time period). Then enter the following:
- Cell K3: =MAX(ID1.SG13@$3:ID1.SG13@$1440)
- Cell L3: =MIN(ID1.SG13@$3:ID1.SG13@$1440)
- Cell M3: =K3 - L3
- Cell N3: =.25 * M3 + L3
- Cell O3: =.5 * M3 + L3
= Cell P3: =.75 * M3 + L3

Where ID1 is the ID of the Numbers Bars Calculated Values Study. SG13 is the "Total Volume" subgraph of the Numbers Bars Calculated Values study. $3 is the first row of the data in the spreadsheet and $1440 is the last row of the data in the spreadsheet (the 1440 should match whatever you have set for the Number of Rows for the spreadsheet).

Column M then gives you the range of the data, and columns N, O, and P give you the values at which the coloring changes (you would need to change the multiplier to whatever you have for your Percent Threshold Values.

Got it. Appreciate the detailed response John. That was also a painless introduction to spreadsheets for me as well!

Many thanks

Hi, can I ask one more question here in case someone else goes down the path I went and gets stuck.

I set up this alert up and it works because in some cases it will trigger, but in others it won't and I can't tell what the issue is. Can you tell from looking at it?

We do not see anything wrong with the syntax of what you have written, but with the 2 OR statements within the AND statement, it is a bit complicated, so you need to make sure you have it working as you expect.

The Spreadsheet Formula uses the Alert Syntax (despite its name). Use this to breakdown your formula and look at each piece and build it up. It will help you figure out where you may have something not set exactly as you want it. Keep in mind that with something like =AND(a, b) the Spreadsheet Formula will return either a 0 (false) or 1 (true). Refer to the information here:
Spreadsheet Formula

I attempted to split them all up and I then spotted a few issues in the Spreadsheet.

The first its its missing an SG1 from a column (issue 1 screenshot)

Then it keeps skipping the second last minutes data in the row 4

Any ideas?

Thanks

We are not sure what you are looking at in the Numbers Bars Calculated Values, but refer to the following:

Hi guys,

Just to tie these issues up in case anyone else reads over them, you're right I was able to solve the problem by changing the Value Format so everything matched, in addition to having the trigger Evaluate on Bar Close.

I also solved the spreadsheet problem by deleting it from the data file and starting a new one.

So thank you with those.

I have one final query. I have the numbers of Rows set to 1000 as that is ample to cover the part of the day I need the alert for. But I want it to reset at the beginning of every day. Instead, the following day it will look back 1000 bars into yesterdays data. Is there a way to get the Spreadsheet to reset the data at the beginning of every day?

Thanks

The only thing you can do is limit the chart to load one day of data:
Chart Settings: Days to Load for Intraday Chart Data Type (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Data Limiting >> Load Data Limiting Method: Days to Load menu)

And reload the chart each day with Chart >> Reload and Recalculate.

How would i formulate this

- Cell K3: =MAX(ID1.SG13@$3:ID1.SG13@$1440)
- Cell L3: =MIN(ID1.SG13@$3:ID1.SG13@$1440)
- Cell M3: =K3 - L3
- Cell N3: =.25 * M3 + L3
- Cell O3: =.5 * M3 + L3
= Cell P3: =.75 * M3 + L3

To apply when using Range Per Bar (8)?

I want an alert to play when column 2 range 2 or 3 UP/DOWN color activates

Thank you

cesium:

We are not understanding your question. You are referencing Cells from a Spreadsheet Study, but then you refer to Range 2 or 3 Up/Down, which implies the Numbers Bars Calculated Values.

Also, we do not remember everything we write, so we need more information on what you are wanting to do in relation to what you referenced. We do not remember what exactly this was solving.

I have a chart with numbers bars, and I want to receive an alert when Column 2 text is highlighted with either range 2/3 up/down color

is this possible?

Based on diagonal dominant side askvol bidvol percentage

To start with, there is not a built-in method to the Numbers Bars study to allow you to setup alerts based on the percentages.

Second to this, the Bid/Ask volume data is not readily exposed, so it is difficult to reproduce what is occurring within the Numbers Bars study.

Our recommendation would be to use the "Volume At Price Threshold Alert V2" study. You would set the "Comparison Method" to "Ask Volume Bid Volume Diagonal Ratio", which is the equivalent to "Based on Diagonal Dominant Side AskVol BidVol Percentage" and then set the "Percentage Threshold" to match your Range 2 percentage threshold. Note that in the "Volume at Price Threshold Alert V2" you enter the percentage as a whole number rather than a decimal, so for a value of 1.25 in the Numbers Bars, you would enter 125 in the Volume at Price Threshold Alert V2.

You would need a total of 4 copies of the Volume at Price Threshold Alert V2, as a positive value for the threshold gives you the Ask/Bid results, and a negative value will give you the bid/ask results. You would also need two more for the Range 3 value.

Refer to the following:
Volume at Price Threshold Alert V2
