this delay in loading getting worse

John, Last night I closed SC, and cleared all those files in the data folders that I should(I do it once a week). This morning I restarted computer and SC and now TWENTY min later my charts are still not loading! What is going on here. Literally it's now 22 min as I write this and they are still stuck at the first step! Help please

We can not say. This can be normal depending on how much data needs to be downloaded and loaded for the chart. Make sure you are not removing any files that you need, as this will require that the system try to download more data. The only additional item that may not have already been mentioned is using an NVME SSD drive for your Sierra Chart installation in order to get as much speed as you can from the drive. I have been told numerous times by the guys at OFL that these files should be deleted every week. Also, my computer repair guy who saw them all clogging up the directory said I should deffo do that. They both said that something in how SC runs creates all these files which muck up your memory/capacity whatever. You know I just do what I am told...

I have been told numerous times by the guys at OFL that these files should be deleted every week. That is garbage, only delete files for expired contracts that you no longer need / use. You are just deleting and redownloading the same data every week.

If I don't do this I end up with lots of those files. They come back even after you delete them. Really, you know I am a dope, and am not arguing with you, but just telling you what I see each week. It's like mowing your lawn, every week it grows back...

Stop deleting your SCID files! The dudes at OFL and your "repair guy" don't know what the fuck they are talking about. These files sitting there aren't going to be a problem unless you start running out of storage space. Further the size won't be the size on disk actually used unless you have disabled file compression. I have 123gb of SCID files that take up a total of 34gb of disk space as an example. You can delete them for unused contracts sure, but caveat on that: If you have some longer term charts that have Continuous Contract with either of the 'Back Adjusted' settings enabled you need to keep the relevant SCID files as well, or they will just get downloaded again. e.g: an ES hourly chart with a years worth of data, and Continuous Contract set to 'Date Rule Rollover - Back Adjusted' you are going to need to have all the SCID files from ESH22_FUT_CME.SCID through to ESM23_FUT_CME.SCID, otherwise Sierra will re-download the data. Hope that explains why you shouldn't delete them.

Oh John, you are so smart. That makes perfect sense. I think because of the nature of my charts(ie I have things going back years so that if/when price moves into new territory I can see what happened there last time it was there) I need all those old scid charts. And yes I see now I delete them, only to reload them... And I see other peeps must have had that issue of the white box popping up too as you sent a message out about it thank you John, Karen
