HI, When using any of the drawing tools available and they are placed on the chart, how can you reference these for any formulas you wish to use them in. eg studies have an ID and Sub graph number. eg I place a horizontial line on a drawing and wish to reference it in an alert formula. |

Thank you. In the case of using a sloping line and say you want to know when a moving average crosses it sometime in the future how is the line referenced? I tried just using the UDID identifier without the anchor reference but received an error. Horizontial line ok as it just has the one fixed anchor point.

As noted in the link given previously, there are two ways to reference a drawing - either by anchor or by the value at a particular bar prior to the current bar. You need to use either one or the other.

Do thank you for your patience. The question I should be asking is, if I draw a trend line on a chart and wish to issue an alert when as an example, a moving average or MACD crosses that trend line it will give me an alert. Is this possible? Anchor points will only give levels at the start and end of the line not intermediate points in between. I am drawing trend lines on MACD's and wanting an alert when these are crossed by the MACD.(EG. CrossFromAbove or CrossFromBelow) This is in area 2 and not on the main price graph. If it cannot it be done so be it. Do appreciate any help, assistance |

Yes what you want is fully supported. These two types of references are supported: Reference by Anchor: This uses the values at an anchor point for the drawing in the alert. The format is UDID[x].Ay, where x is the drawing identifier and y is the anchor number. Reference by Bar Value: This uses the value of the drawing at a bar location in the alert. The format is UDID[x][z], where x is the drawing identifier and z is the bar offset. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
