Global Settings Not Working. No data in Trade Activity Log

Good morning.

1. Ater a complete uninstall and fresh install yesterday, Global Settings working only partially. Noting opens when clicked. No messages in Message Log when General is clicked.

2. Yesterday, I had complete data in Trading Activity Log. Today nothing. Trading in SiM only. Dare not trade live until issues resolved.

Global Settings: what works Y. What does not N:

Tool Configs Y
Intraday file Y
Symbol settings Y
Customize ALL Y

Opened a Second instance. Same, as expected.

I have read everything I can find in Support Board as well as Instrucitonals

We do not understand your table and what is working and what is not working. But, first select Window >> Reset Windows and then try to open the settings windows that are not working. They should all come up without issues.

2. Go into the /TradeActivityLogs subfolder in the Sierra Chart installation folder and see if you see files there for your trading account and date you are looking for trade activity for.

I have Reset Windows numerous times with no change in the Global settings.

Trading Activity Log: there are three folders from today and four from yesterday.


This not easy to explain to you clearly. I will do my best. My guess is it is a Mocrosoft problem with the windows opening minimized somewehre.

Just now, I saw this tiny little white rectanglular box in the upper left corner of my laptop screen with the MS: minimize, maximize and X buttons.

IT IS THE WINDOWS FROM Global Settings 2ND INSTANCE.

They are not opening as they should. They are opening MINIMIZED on the laptop screen instead of on the Sierra charts screen on the external monitors.

I can maximize a window from Global Settins that is there, by dragging the minimized widows to make them larger, but they will not open on the Sierra charts screen.

Very confusing.

I was certain it was NOT a SC programming problem. Your programming is superb.

How do we fix this problem?

The "minimzed" opening only happens with these windows from Global Settings:
General Settings
Data/Trade Service Settings
Tool Settings
General Trade Settings
Chart trade Settings
Chart DOM Settings

All other windows under Global Setting open normally on the Sierra Chart screen on the external monitors.

We just want to make sure we understand - So this is only happening with these particular windows in the 2nd instance of Sierra Chart?

And you have selected Window >> Reset Windows in the 2nd Instance?

ONLY these windows do not open at all that can see:
Data/Trade Services
General Trade Settings

This is management by exception. Only those parts that are not performing normally are exceptions. All others under Global Settings that are NOT mentioned here, are working normally

Main Instance:
General settings open minimized
Data/Trader Service opens minimized
Tool Settings opens minimized

General Tade Settings Opens normally now. Did not, all day today and yesterday.

General Trade Settings does NOT OPEN

Chart DOM settings opens minimized
Spreadsheet opens minimized
Sierra Chart Server Settings opens minimized
Advanced Service Settings opens minimized
Time Zone Settings opens minimized

John, it is 1 a.m. where I am, but wanted you to know, I have the critical settings set. So I am ready to trade Tuesday.

Also, the two external monitors are different resolutions...

I consider this possibility, knowing the fact that when I downloaded SC for the first time, everything worked perfectly until the "hug order" issue came out of nowhere.

Nothing has changed. Same computer, same monitors. Considering all possibilities.

Regarding post #6, the solution to this is in the instance where this happens you just need to select:
Window >> Reset Windows

This will reset the windows position and size to the default.

Hi John. Update for future occurrences of this problem.

It is because I have SC on a 4K very high resolution monitor, running on a pc with the standard resolution. That is why Reset Window had no effect.

When I put SC on the laptop, everything works fine. Same on another external monitor of lower resolution.

Simple, once I figured it out Saturday morning. Mistake was not keeping all monitors the same resolution.

All good now, including Trading Analysis log.

Thank you for the information, although we really do not understand why you were seeing what you were. The particular monitor resolution should not have any impact on this. We will have to see if we can spend some time to see if we can reproduce it.

Good morning, John.

Want to let you know that for unknown reasons, the First Instance on the 4K monitor, all Global settings windows are opening without issues on the Laptop screen.

I have no idea why. I have changed nothing.
