Hello eveyone. I've been using sierra chart for close to 5 months now. everything was running smoothly until a few weeks ago when I started to get the same error messages every hour when sierra chart is running. "HttpSendRequest failed: Windows error code 2: The system cannot find the file specified. | 2013-04-25 15:41:17" and today I found out that I couldn't use fast update anymore. every time I tried, I get error message: "A request for the latest software update has been made. | 2013-04-25 15:41:17 Downloading... You can continue to work during the download. | 2013-04-25 15:41:17 HttpSendRequest failed: Windows error code 2: The system cannot find the file specified. | 2013-04-25 15:41:17 Failed to download software update due to an error. Request ID: 2. | 2013-04-25 15:41:17 " Though I'm still able to connect to my data feed, and my chart updates correctly. My computer system running the sierra chart is used exclusively for trading. the system configuration hasn't been changed since I started using sierra chart almost 5 months ago. I'm using Windows Firewall plus microsoft Security Essentials, I've never installed any other firewall or anti-virus program. Though it hasn't affected my trading so far, it is adding unneeded stress. please help me fix this. |

In our experience this particular error is caused by a firewall blocking the connection. You really should check your system to make certain it does not have any other firewall software. I am on the same configuration, and do have the same problem. In my experience it pops up out of the blue (no update of SC and computer and SC already running for days at a time) and usually disappears after a restart of SC. It doesn't seem to effect trading activity or data reception. I am not at all an IT specialist so maybe the following is an ignorant question. Since it is a firewall issue could this possibly reside with the ISP? They do monitor customer connections for malicious/'malicious' software. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-04-25 08:21:07

It is not from the ISP. We just did a test now and what we see is that it could be from Internet Explorer being set to work off-line. So run Internet Explorer and go to File >> Work Offline and uncheck it.

Thanks for the reply. IE was not set to Work Offline though. However IE lately has some trouble with staying online. In the middle of a session it sometimes asks if I 'want to go online'. I'll look into this. It appears to be related.

Hello SierraChart. I've double checked to make sure that there is no other firewall installed on my trading computer. as I've said, I use my trading computer exclusively for trading. nobody but me uses this computer, and apart from windows 7 updates and Sierra Chart updates, I haven't installed any other software since I began using Sierra 5 months ago. I also checked to make sure that IE was not set to work offline. this problem came out of the blue a few weeks ago. and I couldn't pinpoint any likely causes at all. I'm a computer technician so I do know my way around computers and softwares. I've manually downloaded and installed the latest version of SC (ver 967), but still the error message persists... well, the problem has just got fixed. when I checked my IE there was no work offline option under File, so I assumed that it wasn't offline, I also opened a webpage to make sure that it could open. however when I went back to close IE I saw a notification asking me whether or not to go back offline!?@%#$, and I chose "no". basically the error message problem went away after that. I still have no idea what could be the cause of the error message. but I'm just glad that it's gone. Thanks a lot for the assistance. Best regards. |

User 85195, Chack IE >> Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections. Make sure 'never dial a connection' is checked. Somehow with me the next one was checked and this caused the numerous offline sessions. I really don't understand why this suddenly became an issue with IE, I never changed any settings. Anyway, looks like the 'httpsendrequest' issue is caused by IE. Support, thanks for the hint in the right direction!! |
