IB's tech support sent me back here for this problem.
I run Windows 7. About a week ago, the TWS window started behaving strangely. When I minimize TWS, it parks above the taskbar (like an old MDI window), and then I can't get back to it without minimizing everything and clicking into it from the blank desktop. IB's tech support had me disable the API connection to Sierra Chart and restart TWS. TWS then behaves normally. IB's tech support says it has something to do with how Sierra handles the popup messages in TWS.

I can't see any popup message settings to tweak in Sierra's connection menu for IB. Do you guys have a fix for this issue? I recently upgraded java and TWS and Sierra, but can't pinpoint if any of those updates caused this issue.

During the process of connecting to TWS the only thing that Sierra Chart may do is send your TWS Username and Password into the TWS Login window. If this Login window is not displayed, nothing happens. To prevent this remove the TWS Username and Password from Global Settings >>Data/Trade Service Settings. Otherwise, Sierra Chart will have no interaction with TWS windows.

We do not see the significance of disabling the API in TWS. If that is actually helping that would clearly indicate the issue is within TWS.

I got the window to behave correctly again after removing the user/pass from the settings, and disabling the option to connect automatically on program startup. Now, when I just connect manually to TWS the window minimizes/restores with no problems.

However, I can't see my open orders from IB (orders originally sent from Sierra) on the chart anymore. They're not in the orders & positions window either. Is there a way to refresh this data from TWS? While I was messing with settings, I changed the Instance>>Client IDxxxxx setting to 0... if that matters.

Follow step numbers 6 and 7 here:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/IB.php#SetupInstructions

A client ID of 0 will let you access all of the Trade orders from TWS. But if you can set it back to what it was previously that may help also.

OK, I thought this was fixed but it's not.

I mentioned in the last post, the window functioned normally but I couldn't see the open orders. After restarting everything and entering the account numbers per your instructions 6 & 7, I can now see the orders again in Sierra. But the TWS window has gone back to mis-behaving when Sierra connects to it: parks above the taskbar, can't access it without minimizing all other windows, and I just discovered that the cursor is disabled in TWS- on a quote page I can't type in a new symbol on a blank row. TWS functions normally until I connect Sierra (manually connecting now).

Can you offer any other suggestions?

No. We do not see how this is a Sierra Chart caused issue at all. This could not be. Sierra Chart cannot be interfering with TWS in that way.

IB said the same thing: has to be a Sierra issue.

I'm using the web beta version of TWS (build 939.0g) now and it's working correctly. For anyone else having this issue, you at least have a workaround.

We would know better than IB to comment on whether Sierra Chart could be the cause of the problem. It could not be Sierra Chart. If you have removed your Interactive Brokers Username from Sierra Chart in Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings, then there is no possibility of Sierra Chart interacting with TWS windows.
