i just purchased a new computer which came with Windows 8.1 What malware or other security software would you suggest I use that won't interfere with Sierra Charts. I haven't put any thing on yet because I don't want to cause a potential problem with interference.

I am also considering to purchase a new computer which will be running Windows 8.1 and use "touch screen" enabled monitors. As a long time loyal SC subscriber, I would like some opinion or guidance on this possibility from Sierra Support. TY in advance. Other users also welcome to add opinions or actual experiences.

I just use Windows Defender which is free, effective and never caused any problems with SC

I use two 8.1 with Sierra Charts At for 5 weeks now. One unit wireless in family room while I rest. I have seen no issues with 8.1.
Two other units are Win 7 and run them side by side laptops connected to two 39 inch LCD Vizio tv screens.
I'm very happy with SC. I have used and still run other platforms as well for years.
They run the same on Win 8 and 7. Defender M Essentials fine as well so far.
Light weight runs like a Triple Crown Thoroughbred. Quick loading of different symbols excellent and I don't have to fight adjusting charts.
It takes time and patience to learn that's why I read the support forum threads.

Hi,

Some people complain that many popular programs cannot run on Windows 8 due to tightened security. Have you guys encountered similar problems ?

Thanks.

PS: I also learn a lot from reading the posts on this support board.

Nothing I have seen with programs.
Only issue I have had with a Toshiba laptop quad core 8 ram. This unit must have came out with the first 8.1. Setting up keyboard was sending out wrong key strokes. Researching online that it is an issue I found. I use the on screen keyboard on Win 7 and 8.
On an HP that I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 no issue with keyboard.

Personally I like Linux systems but limited with trading with some programs.
I don't spend much on my computers and I won't buy an OS unless bundled with a new laptop.
The HP versus the Toshiba program is different a bit. The design of chimes and layout 8.1 I don't care for. Linux rocks.
Good luck best to try 8.1 and take a test drive in a store.
