Hi, I mainly scalp low float US stocks and often react quickly to news. I've been testing Sierra Chart for a couple of days and it's fantastic - perfect in practically every way, however I require charts to load almost instantly like they do on my trading platform, DAS Trader Pro. Apologies if this has been answered already, I've spent a lot of time searching and I've only found support for people who are trying to load a lot of data, but is there any way to load a small amount of data almost instantly? I'm using 4 charts (10 sec, 1 min, 5 min and daily). All set to 1 day under 'number of days to load', except daily, which is set to 5 years. Thanks for your help - appreciate the work you guys have put in to this system. Every single other question I had I managed to find the answer in the support section and it worked perfectly every time. |

I’m not SC Support but couldn’t you put your 4 charts in a chartbook and already have several chartbooks open for the different symbols you watch? That way they are already loaded.

If you are switching to new symbols on those 4 charts, then the issue is that Sierra Chart has to download the data from the server and then load the data file to get the data into the chart. One thing you can do to help with this is to put the symbols that you watch into the Intraday File Update List, which will cut down on the time to download the data from the server. Refer to the following: Global Settings Menu: Intraday File Update List (Global Settings menu) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing Date Time Of Last Edit: 2021-03-17 17:17:13

Thank you both for your replies. The multiple chartbooks is a good idea but I'll often load up a stock with breaking news and jump in within 5 seconds, so I won't have that stock on watch already. Regarding putting symbols into an intraday file update list, would it be possible to put 1000-2000 stocks in it? Or am I being ridiculous? I'm basically trying to cover any stock I might load up. The total list would be around that size. |

There are two things you need to do. To improve chart loading performance, refer to: High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.12 - Intraday Data Storage Time Unit. Historical Data Record Time Frame. To reduce the amount of time to download historical data, decrease this setting: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/DataSourceSettings.php#MaxHistoricalIntradayDaysToDownload Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Thanks, I've tried both those settings, but I always get the 'Waiting to download historical data' message for approx. 3-5 seconds, even with those settings as low as possible. Is this normal? "Downloading historical data. Bars may not appear until done" usually only flashes up momentarily, so the actual download time seems to be fine. I'm connected to 'SC Data - All Services [data]' in Data/Trade Service Settings - hopefully that's correct.

Yes that delay is normal because real-time data has to be buffered for 5 seconds so that there is no chance of missing any data at the transition from historical to real-time data.

I assume there's no way to disable that? Even at the cost of some data accuracy? As mentioned, I need the charts to load almost instantly like they do on my broker platform.

Absolutely not. What you need to do in this case is use the Intraday File Update List: Global Settings Menu: Intraday File Update List (Global Settings menu) You can certainly add 2000 symbols. But we have to authorize receiving real-time data for that many symbols. We can do this for 150 USD per month for the data feed. Let us know if you want this and we will set that up for you.
