Hello again, I'd like to re congratulate the makers of this software. I've tried a several over the past few years and this one is something special. (in some ways it's better than Tradestation, which has been my standard with which to judge all others by). There seem to be a few hang ups though... anyway, could you advise me on how to work from offline ? *I did read the documentation on that topic. However, it is not really clear to me. It uses words like "have signed in previously"... but what does "previously" mean? that day, during the time the computer was turned on, since you're account first began , etc. ? ? In any event I have not been able to sign in while not connected to internet. Why is that? I think that most of the platforms I've tried have had the ability to use in offline mode. The ones that did not I was particularly weary of. It makes me nervous that I'd have to connect to their server to work in private. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-02-20 21:39:53

Auspicatum FYI: some well qualified hackers told me that SC is protected not so bad. most of the platforms I've tried have had the ability to use in offline mode.

"not so bad" means any of others might be hacked in a couple of hours for a bottle of beer. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-02-20 20:09:05

Auspicatum looks like you need to be online and run SC at least once per month http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/LoginInstructions.php#WorkingOffLine |

Thank you. But I can't seem to be able to sign in when offline...any ideas please I am leaving for my first cruise and they do not have internet onboard(unless you pay a very expensive fee). If it helps at all... a window pops up, and it reads: Sierra Chart Login Error: HTTP Error: HTTP request #1 returned the following error: Windows error code 12007: The server name or address could not be resolved. And that was after I typed in the password at and hit "login" just as I would with the internet turned on. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-02-20 21:58:13

Nowhere in the Login instructions is it said: "have signed in previously". Restart Sierra Chart when you have an Internet connection and login. Remove your Internet connection, restart Sierra Chart and log in again. What happens when you try to login when you do not have the Internet connection? We have verified this should work properly. We recognize what the problem is after reading your updated information you posted. You have to choose the option to Save Password. Otherwise, it will not work to work off-line. Yep. That's it. For anyone else who might need this info, I'd clarify by saying that you must first login (while online), with the "save password" box checked. Then you can log off, shut the online connection off, and sign in. Then it will work. But if you just try to sign in offline, with "save password" checked...it doesn't seem to work. |
