Hello, I just updated from 1032 to 1046 and the chart values window is displaying 0's for my ACSIL studies unless I scroll the chart (i.e., press the "left-key" once). Also, whenever I start SC it says "Failed to open the configuration file when saving". I checked the support board and it says to right-click the installation directory and to uncheck "read-only" for all files and folders. I've done that, for all directories where I've installed SC and it didn't help. This has happened before and that helped, but I'm not sure what's wrong now. Running it as administrator is the only fix at the moment but that must not be secure. I can't wait until the 100% Linux version is available. Windows is a pain. Sorry, the first problem was user error. I was using the Chart Values Window instead of the Tool Values Window. |

User35525 I can't wait until the 100% Linux version is available. Windows is a pain.
99% of Steam users are using windoze 99% of retail traders are using windoze 99% of retail data/trade services are using windoze-based apps/api more than that: 90% of retail data/trade services are using .Net/C# - based apps/api so where is the logic to develop a native linux SC version? there is a chance we will see some kind of a "TradeStation for TV-set" /like PlayStation or Xbox/ sooner than linux versions of trading software will be a reality imho :) ps: i prefer linux and i'm using SC on linux but SC is not a main tool in my strategy Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-11-21 02:34:29

I'm sure those numbers may be correct for retail traders. But by using Sierra technology, we get an edge that other retail traders don't have: -- better performance. Linux has about 30% better performance on similar hardware as Windows. When you just have 1.7GB RAM on an AWS EC2 small instance, any extra performance helps. -- better security. I won't have to run SC as administrator just to avoid the above error, and won't be worried about Windows malware. 90% of malware is probably Windows based, as most exploits affect Windows OS. Plus, Microsoft won't be spying on my anymore. :-) -- Sierra has already answered why they like non-.net/C# approaches. Reasons are performance, ease of development, and stability. It's my understanding that once all the non-CLR code supports the SC FIX engine, then that will help with stability and the 100% Linux version can be released later. -- I bet 90% of traders are losing too, and many aren't using Sierra Chart, and don't care about automating strategies, or performance. They're happy with buggy and resource-hungry NinjaTrader and other inferior solutions. They probably don't care about security and stability and are happy with Windows. Ignorance is bliss. I'm hoping to branch out to non-SC solutions soon too... Hopefully Sierra will supplement their market data feed with API support so we can connect from Python, C, etc and benefit from Sierra technology. I'm hoping for an execution API too, so we can bypass the SC client for execution and use whatever language we wish. Also on my wish list, MORE/BETTER NON-TRIVIAL ACSIL EXAMPLES FOR TRADE MANAGEMENT. |

User35525 But by using Sierra technology, we get an edge that other retail traders don't have:
SierrChart is the WinApp and SC Team is the win_programmers_team since 1996 :) -- better performance. Linux has about 30% better performance on similar hardware as Windows.
SierrChart is the graphics package. So the answer is "No". The graphics performance on Windoze is much better than on Linux/Wine. and won't be worried about Windows malware. 90% of malware is probably Windows based, as most exploits affect Windows OS.
Because of 99% users. Plus, Microsoft won't be spying on my anymore.
NSA is one of main developers for linux kernel/crypto subsystem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security-Enhanced_Linux :) It's my understanding that once all the non-CLR code supports the SC FIX engine, then that will help with stability and the 100% Linux version can be released later.
At this moment of time the only service in a production state is TT FIX. CTS T4 FIX has a number of problems and CTS does not solve them as quick as they should because of 99%.
Yes. Ninjatrader == Xbox. This is exactly what I meant. :) And this is the reality.

The API does exist because this uses the open specification DTC protocol. The actual login though we have not disclosed because in order to get the exchange fee waiver the connection needs to be through trading capable software. However, it is our intent to allow external connections. We do plan a completely native Linux version next year. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. An open execution API would maybe satisfy the CME (easily pick your trading service, use the SC RT feed... ). Maybe dreams do come true in "the outback". :-)

Is the any chance SC team will have CUDA implementation to speed up Spreadsheet cpu calculations? Maybe, for testing it could go as an option which can be switched on/off? there are lots of benchmarks with CPU vs GPU results, for example: http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~sangjin/2013/02/12/CPU-GPU-comparison.html and just FYI http://www.mindfiresolutions.com/How-To-Start-writing-CUDA-Program-606.php |

namlem The graphics performance of a planned qt5-version on Windows and Linux is unknown. Also FYI: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/633730/unix-graphics-announcements-and-news/deprecation-plans-for-32-bit-linux-x86-cuda-toolkit-and-cuda-driver/ |

Thanks for the good info ganz, dind't know about that. But not a word about Windows and since SierrChart is the WinApp and SC Team is the win_programmers_team since 1996 :)
I reckon win platform will not be abandoned and cuda support still might be considered. |

namlem ok. my logic here is: 1. We do plan a completely native Linux version next year.
2. 1 + 2= x64 bit SC version in order to support CUDA for the spreadsheet :) Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-11-21 06:44:45
