I am experiencing very high memory usage. I have one chartbook (multiple charts) open and the program is using 233,544k of memory according to the Windows Task Manager. A friend who is using the same chartbook is only using 93,000k. I have upgraded to version 1032 and pressed "delete all data and download." If I close out of all chartbooks, the memory usage reduces to 19,232k. Please advise how to fix this problem. Chris |

It depends upon what studies are being used, and how much data is loaded into the chart. So you will want to reduce the number of days loaded in the chart by selecting Chart >> Chart Settings. Check the Days to Display/Load setting. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point. I have reset the chartbook to be the exact specifications that are being used by my friend. My memory usage for Sierra is now 167,288k while his is at 93,000k. Is there an other potential reason for this difference? |

The only way to make a determination as to what is using the memory is to gradually open charts and configure them the way that you require to see what is using significant amounts of memory. You also need to understand that the memory use shown by a process is not only from the particular program running. It also is from the operating system file caching. And there can be other add-ons to the operating system like anti-malware software which do run within the address space of a program also potentially adding additional memory use, although not completely certain about this. There are a lot of possibilities. So one thing you may want to check is what is the Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Intraday Data Storage Time Unit that you are using compared to another copy of Sierra Chart you are comparing to. So you can see, this is not an easy question and one reason why we hesitate even answering these questions to begin with. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. My memory usage seems to be more when I increase the chart recalculation period. Another thing that I've noticed is that my usual chartbook is using 1/2 the memory than it was a month ago. I don't know why but I'm guessing that it's because CTS is now sending out smart buffered data to all SC clients. If the above is true, then it's much better for me as I was limited memory-wise in what I was able to do because of the legacy architecture (no offence intended but it's true). We do not see how recalculation frequency would affect memory usage in any way. Sierra Chart versions prior to versions approximately around 1030 when using CTS, always use Fast Trade and this is not changeable.
