I would like to build some scans using the indicators in the Hoffman Professional package. I seem to have seen something about scans in Sierra Chart, but can not find anything now. I have tried searching numerous times, but it has never worked in 20+ attempts over the last couple of months. Just a blank Google search page. Can you get me going in the right direction? Is there a different search engine I can use? Thanks, Dan |

Thanks for that... I am not a programmer, but I think what I am trying to do is in the Referencing Subgraphs. I have located the subgraphs for Rob Hoffman's studies, but how can I say, for example, Hoffman fast trigger changes from blue to magenta? Not asking you to program this for me, but I do need a start... Want to say, for example, Hoffman traditional trigger on "Buy" and the fast trigger changes from magenta to blue. Cheers, Dan |

We do not provide programming help and there is no way for us to help with this, unless we were to actually look at the studies very carefully and look at the Subgraph values and understand the behavior of the studies. This is simply outside the scope of our support. Alert Formulas do not work with colors. They only work with Study Subgraphs values. You have to look at the Study Subgraph values to determine what you want to do. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. In that case, is there a way to write a formula to compare the current value of an indicator to the value of the previous time frame, whatever it is, day, hour, etc.?

If you are referring to the previous bar, then yes. This is simple. It is clearly documented on this page here: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_AlertCondAndScan.html#ReferencingDataOtherLastBar Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Sorry to be bugging you with this, but I wonder, do the custom studies lend themselves to this? I am trying to scan on the Hoffman slow trigger which is displayed in SG3. Even with absolutely simple commands, like SG3>SG3[-1] or SG3<>0 there is no alert on any symbol. I tried a very simple scan on the chart, C>60, and sure enough, that triggered alerts and they showed up in the alerts log. Any suggestions? Thanks |

It is not possible for us to answer this question or provide specific help. We are not familiar with the studies you are working with and it is outside the scope of our support to get involved in that. Any suggestions? One way to see if a study outputs values that can be used to trigger alerts is to add the Spreadsheet Study study to the chart then look in columns AA and above. If a custom study does not output Subgraph values, you will need to know its algorithm to create an alert. |
