SC Engineering, I don’t know if you are already informed about this but there are some details that I think I should call your attention for, regarding the CME Fee waiver with IB trading accounts. As we all know, IB can sometimes be “not very easy” to work with. In the case of CME fee waivers, and unlike most other brokers, IB doesn’t give to the data feed provider any information about the client’s account being active / funded or not. This account information is necessary to access and validate the CME Fee Waiver – this validation needs to be done upon the first time connection and then at least once a month to keep the fee waiver active. This is the reason why it is not possible for IB customers to benefit from the CME fee waiver through Barchart, for example. In the case of IQFeed, they created an additional application (Fee Waiver Plug In) that runs along with IQFeed software. This “Fee Waiver Plug In” establishes a connection to IB TWS and gets the necessary information to confirm if the client’s account is active and funded. You can see it here: http://www.iqfeed.net/text/WaiverPluginInstruction.pdf That’s why the CME fee waiver has to be mandatorily validated with IB real account and not with IB paper account. Nevertheless, it is still very important to allow the traders to be able to use their IB paper accounts. In the case of the IQFeed “Fee Waiver Plug In” mentioned above, it is possible to log in to the IB paper account without losing the CME waiver – when we log in IB paper account we just don’t allow the “Fee Waiver Plug In” to connect to IB TWS, clicking "No" in the pop up window. If we do allow this connection the fee waiver will be immediately blocked. I hope I was clear enough with my explanation. My intention is just to avoid you to get an unpleasant surprise with this issue in the last minute. Let me know if you need any further information about this subject. I am looking forward to be able to subscribe the upcoming data feed. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-10-16 12:27:02

Our plan was to only allow access to the CME real-time data feed when connected to a live Interactive Brokers account. You will still be able to access delayed data even when not connected. After reading this, what we will do is also support a paper trading account as well. You will still have to at least once during the same calendar month connect to your live account, otherwise you will not get the data feed. The fee waiver is always available and you will never be billed the exchange fees, however you will not be able to access the CME data from our servers and instead will get the Interactive Brokers data. It is important that we make sure we get proper approval for this. So we are checking if it is OK that we do what we said.

Thank you for your reply. This is great news because it is very important for every trader to be able to use both live and paper accounts with the very same conditions (i.e. for testing, practicing, etc.), in this case the same data feed. Using IB paper account instead of SC Sim account has the advantage to reproduce all the live conditions (Fills, interaction between SC and TWS, IB Trade Logs, etc). The way you describe you are planing to do now is identical to IQFeed, so I guess you will be able to get the approval to implement it. I think that what you have to do is to implement an option to allow the user to submit or not the account authentication to the CME data feed account. But I am sure that you will find the best way to do it. Please let us know on any further developments on this subject. Thank you very much. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-10-17 10:31:47

We have received approval for this. As long as you connect to your Interactive Brokers live account at least once during a calendar month, you will be able to get the new Sierra Chart CME real-time data feed when connected to your paper trading account. The new Sierra Chart CME exchange fee waived data feed is now available: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/SierraChartRealTimeFuturesStockDataFeed.php As long as you connect at least once to your Live account during the month, it is possible to also get this data feed when using an Interactive Brokers paper trading account. Hello, I have a question. What happen after I violate "login live IB account at least once a calendar month"? Is there a way I can recover data feed or is that all over using SC data feed then look for alternative? Just curiosity. Thanks. |

The historical data that is already in the chart will still remain and you will still be able to get 10 minute delayed historical data. Although we need to explain exactly how this works. If you open a chart for example for the ES futures when not connected to Interactive Brokers, and you are enabled for the Sierra Chart real-time data feed, historical data will be downloaded and it will be 10 minute delayed. This is a really nice feature. Once you connect to Trader Workstation, and you are not connected to a live account and you did not connect to a live account during the month, then the most recent 10 minutes of historical data and the real-time data will come from Interactive Brokers. If you connect to a live account, then you will get both historical and real-time data from the Sierra Chart server. Once we begin to offer the CME data feed with exchange fees, then it will not matter whether you are connected to a live account or not. But the CME exchange fees are not inexpensive.
