Trade and Current Quote Symbol question

So I've set up my platform now with ES displaying on the chart and SPY designated as the 'Trade and Current Quote Symbol'. I guess I'm not really clear what exactly I can do with this arrangement. I was hoping I would be able to set buy and sell orders at certain levels and have them fill, similar to how chart trading would normally operate, only in this case I want orders of SPY to be sent corresponding to the ES level. But I'm getting nothing. For example if I set a SELL LIMIT or SELL STOP order above the current price, and price trades through the level... nothing happens. If I put a BUY LIMIT below price... the order automatically fills at market. And with a BUY STOP below price, and price trading through it... nothing happens. Someone mentioned that I would only be able to use market orders with this setup, but I thought that meant I'd at least be able to set up trade orders on the chart to be filled when my designated level is hit. I'm not really interested in just blasting off a market order from the DOM when I see my price level hit. I can already do that. Do you know how I can make this work the way I want? Ideally, I'd love to be able to set a BUY LIMIT or BUY STOP LIMIT order at a certain level below price and have a LIMIT order on SPY sent where I could designate that if order can't be filled within a few ticks either on the ES or SPY... then don't fill the order. And vice versa for sell orders. |

If you are the user who was asking about this previously, then you said specifically that you would be using market orders. The pricing is completely different between these two symbol so you cannot use limit or stop orders. In order to do what you want, is going to require custom programming which is completely beyond the scope of our support and you would have to develop a semi- automated method of order entry. What I meant when I said I was okay with market orders is that I was fine if the order triggered was a market order. In other words, I thought I'd still be able to designate a level on the ES chart using Chart Trader, and when it was hit the order sent would be a SPY market order. Which I'm still fine with. Seems like this wouldn't be too complicated to figure out since it's basically the same thing as hitting buy or sell at market on the DOM. Only that same order is instead triggered when a certain level on the ES is hit.

Really though this is going to require custom programming for it to work in this way. We can refer you to someone who can help with this. The concept really is not hard to implement but it does require custom programming. The other thing to do is to use the Real-time price multiplier to adjust the prices of the trading symbol to match the main symbol of the chart as best as possible: Chart Settings: Real-Time Price Multiplier (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Symbol >> Symbol Settings menu) Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
