Hi,

I have a setup of "master sierrachart" that mainly just monitors instruments and then "detail sierracharts" that I use for trading ( this sierrachart uses much more cpu than the master one ).

I have been using the instruments on the "detail sierrachart" set to the ones in the "master sierrachart". ( so, the instruments have an "R" near them ).

I read this on the documentation:
The following instructions explain how to set a chart to reference the local chart data file instead of a remote chart data file from another remote copy of Sierra Chart. This information is here because some users may be using the no longer supported remote chart data file feature.

Is this method of using SierraChart unsupported ? I do this way because it allows me in the "detail sierrachart" to:

* It allows me on LMAX for example, to use the XXX instrument and trade on the XXXm instrument. ( and it still displays the market depth and other info of the XXX instrument ).
* Lots of times, when using the local instrument and not the remote one from "master sierrachart", the candles become different ( have to delete data from last day to make it sync and become equal ). Using the remote one instrument, they are always the same as in the "master sierrachart".
* Uses the same scid file, but this is minor ... disk space not a concern.

So... please advise, can I continue to use the Remote instruments, or is it much better technicly to swith to local instruments in all the sierrachart instances ?

Thanks !

If you are using remote chart data files and it works fine for you, then that is all right.

Also we do not understand the details of this:
* Lots of times, when using the local instrument and not the remote one from "master sierrachart", the candles become different

Sounds like you would have been doing something wrong.

Dunno what, chart has all the settings equal between "master" and "detail" sierracharts.

What happens in more detail, is:

* I launch the "Master SierraChart".
* After that I launch the instance and open the instrument chartbook. ( Important: Chart type is "number of trades" )
- The chart in question that is equal to the "Master SierraChart", usually has a few "ticks" away from the "Master" one ( as shown from the tick counter indicator ). If i do a "Delete and download" data , from before "today", It becomes corrected.

If necessary i can show a screenshot of both charts

Another user described something like this, and we use tested this all day today and could not duplicate this.

Would also be incredibly surprising that there would be a problem. So we are not sure what the issue is.

What is the Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >>Intraday Data Storage Time Unit you are using?

Its "1 Tick" ( as i use various charts that need settings to 1 tick, i actually don't use any time based charts ).

I just tested it to try and make a screenshot for you guys, but actually it was working properly. Correction, just started not working properly.

See Screenshot:

The left chart is the "master", the right is the "detail". Although the error is just by 1 tick right now, the right one should even be ahead of the left one, as the left one is configured with 1000ms update speed and the right one is configured with 200ms speed.

Some things I have noticed: When i open the chartbook in the "detail SierraChart", at first the instrument opens with a [M] on it. Then it goes away ( when historical download is completed, if not mistaken ). A weird thing is , if in the "Detail SierraChart" I set the symbol in the "Intraday File Update List", the symbol then always have the [M] attached to it ( this happens with FXCM cfd symbols, but doesn't appear to happen with LMAX forex symbols ).

EDIT: In this case, the difference is small, the candles are very much the same. When there is more ticks difference, then its more visible.
