I am trouble getting the candlestick finder to work, I think. First, I dont think it identifies all of the patterns selected, but I guess I need to ask whose definitions of the candlestick patterns are you using? Second, I want to make sure I am setting up the inputs properly for MORE THAN ONE PATTERN. In my examples, I wanted to ask it to identify bullish engulfing and bearish engulfing. Engulfing definition is completely engulfing the previous bar's candle body. From what I see, it identifies SOME bull engulfing, but not others. It isn't identifying any bear engulfing from what I can see, so I question the setup of having more than one pattern selected. The first 2 attachments are asking if the setup of the study for multiple patterns looks correct, the second 2 attachments are examples of engulfing patterns it DID NOT IDENTIFY, if I have set up properly There were others. Also, in candlestick charts in general, the colors for an up bar in SC are green, a down bar red...can these colors be changed? Thanks! Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-05-30 03:52:07

The Candlestick Patterns Finder settings you have are valid. The reason for the failed detection has to do with the particular conditions that have to be met for those patterns. We have documented them here: CandleStick Patterns Finder: Available Patterns Also, in candlestick charts in general, the colors for an up bar in SC are green, a down bar red...can these colors be changed? Yes. Refer to:Graphics Settings Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point. Thanks much...so most of the patterns say they use trend detection, does that mean they DONT work without it? or give false signals?

You can optionally use trend detection. It is not required. Would be best not to use it in order to simplify the detection. Look closely at the documentation we wrote for the conditions to detect those particular patterns. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Your trigger for engulfing patterns isn't quite right. True engulfing pattern (many of the best sources): An engulfing pattern is characterized by a candle whose BODY engulfs the previous candle’s BODY. If the engulfing candle’s high and low engulfs the previous candle’s high and low, the pattern is found to be more valid, but not required. Your engulfing pattern only triggers: If the engulfing candle’s high and low engulfs the previous candle’s high and low. This is too strict, and many good signals go unnoticed. Most principles in candlesticks rely on the open vs the close (body), not as much the tails. Can this please be changed? or have 2 categories of engulfing that differentiate between these two. IMO it makes no sense to have a pattern for engulfing if many of these slip by the system. I have attached 2 recent examples of the engulfing pattern existing but not a trigger in SC with your strict rule. Thanks Tom Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-05-31 16:47:45

So are you making a change to the engulfing? or adding a second one for the two cases I outlined? Thanks Tom |

We will add additional "bullish engulfing and bearish engulfing" pattern detectors that use the body only.

Yes. You will see new pattern names in the list of the patterns with the Candlestick Patterns Finder study at the end. You need to update to the latest version.
