Hi there,

I'm trying to open a 4hour chart however each time I go to a 4hour chart it converts back immediately to a 5min chart. I think it has something to do with RefBy: #49 in the title bar in Chart Settings [F5]. Please see attached..

I have tried to duplicate chart but still does not work. Please can you help.

Rgds, Mark

Refer to:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails18.html

You do need to remove the reference to it from chart number #49. You can see that chart listed on the CW menu.

Hi and thanks ..however even when I open a fresh chart [Open Intraday Chart] the same thing occurs

[not sure what you mean by 'need to remove the reference to it' as there is no reference to a clean new chart]

We will implement an automated solution to this. Just give us about one or two days.

Update to the latest prerelease following the instructions here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/download.php#FastUpdate

You should now be prompted to clear the reference to the chart when you try to change the timeframe of the chart bars.

When you try to change the time period of the chart bars, do you get a prompt indicating that it is being referenced by another chart?

There is no doubt the chart is being referenced by another chart and you can tell which chart number through Chart >> Chart Settings. What do you see after Reference By?

What you can do is remove all of the studies from that particular chart which is referencing it. That would be the easiest thing to do if you do not know what study is causing the problem.

..no I don't get a prompt

..problem is that chart is my key chart with numerous studies [15-20] and would be a lot of work to remove and reconstruct every time I want a new chart.

..please see attached. I have tried to duplicate this chart to get a 'fresh' chart but still has the same ref. It refers to my main trading chart.

You are running version 1455 and not the prerelease.

This is what we said previously:

ok I have downloaded that and performed the same action then was asked if I wanted to clear references as you say, but it still flicks back to the 5min [from 4hour]

I'm on version 1457

Do this:

1. Select File >> Save.

2. Go to chart #49.

3. Remove one study at a time from this chart

4. Go back to the chart that you are trying to change the bar time period of. If you can do it, then the removed study is the problem.

Repeat steps number 2-4.

5. Once you determine what study is causing the problem, then close the Chartbook without saving it.

6. Reopen the Chartbook to restore it as it previously was.

7. You can then remove the study which is causing a problem on chart 49.

ok seemed to have sorted prob by deleting all the (hidden) studies, just not sure if that was per chance or the actually the problem. But thx anyway for your help :-)

What study was causing the problem? So we can prevent this from happening in the future.

OK not sure why there would have been a problem then because that study would have had its Chart Number input automatically set to zero when you pressed yes to remove the references.
