Dear Support

I have noticed that different values are presented by the 'OHLC Ray Tool' from those given in the SC Header-line Chart Values; Chart Values for Tools (Region 1; Chart Values Window (scrolled to the test bar).

The same issue occurs with the 'Swing Marker Tool' however as it requires a minimum 2 bars you need test either 2 bars. This tool gives the same value as the 'OHLC Tool' which again is not the same value as is given in the SC Header-line Chart Values; Chart Values for Tools (Region 1); Chart Values Window (scrolled to the test bars).

Although I am having problems with data settings and have posted my question in the wrong support area this has been tested on various charts using the SC FXCM data symbol default settings.

Many thanks

Paul

Update on other tools

The 'Anchors' used in the 'fib studies' and the 'calculator tool' etc also all have the same values as the 'OHLC Ray Tool' and 'Swing Marker Tool' BUT these are not the values given by the chart data when using the cross hair and displayed in the:

SC Header-line Chart Values
Chart Values for Tools (Region 1)
Chart Values Window (scrolled to the test bar)

Am I missing something?

One last point before I break for the weekend is that this may relate to my question posted on the incorrect/other support board. It seems to be an FXCM fractional point issue that I cannot seem to correct or get my head around. Maybe the tools are only utilizing 4 digits and 2 for the Yen?

Example with USD Counter/Variable:

a) 1.00023 - 1.00016 = 0.00007 which is not even 1 Point (Pip) but to the 4th place 1.0002 - 1.0001 = 0.0001 is 1 Point (Pip) so,

b) Fractional: 0.00007 x 10,000 = 0.7 Pips and 0.00007 x 100,0000 (1 Lot) = 7 USD

c) 4th Place: 0.0001 x 10,000 = 1 Pip and 0.0001 x 100,000 = 10 USD

The Chart Value and Tool values would seem to provide very different results. How to correct the issue and the tools? Am I missing something? Are the symbol defaults incorrect?

Many thanks and my apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

First, do not post any further information. There is a substantial amount of information here and we need time to look at this.

Please allow us a couple of days.

And do not post any further information using any other communication method. We see an account support ticket from you and also apparently an email as well.

We have now had time to concentrate on this, and this documentation we just prepared explains this:
Chart Drawing Tools: Chart Bar Values, Chart Tick Size and Adjusting Tool Values to Tick Size

Let us know if that is clear.

Dear Support

Not entirely, and my apologies for the addendum's to the original message I wanted to give you the fullest picture but appreciate your comments.

I certainly fail to see the point of the default 0.00005 as opposed to 0.00001 which is the min fractional pip quote value for the data provided however here is the issue.

When using fractional points and simple straightforward math the difference between 1.13161 and 1.12411 is 0.00750.

The calculator tool agrees with this by displaying DIT -750 PD -0.00750 (High to Low) but 0.00750 x 10,000 = 75 which is the correct DIT; not 750 which is however mathematically correct.

Is there a setting I am missing such as a multiplier (10,000 or 100JPY)that will allow the fractional pip to be correctly included in calculation such as the Calculator Tool and Reward Risk Tool, otherwise fractional pip values are an issue?

As a side note whoever specified the development of and programmed Sierra Charts really needs an award as its level of detail and flexibility is unbelievable ... which is why poor me is often left a little phased and feeling somewhat guilty that I am receiving such an excellent and unpaid level support assistance, which is unlikely to be the case with any other platform.

Thank you

Paul

I certainly fail to see the point of the default 0.00005 as opposed to 0.00001
If the default were .00001, then the Volume at Price data processing which occurs for some studies, takes a lot longer and will consume an excessive amount of memory. This is the reason why a higher default is used.

However, you can change this very easily through Chart >> Chart Settings.

To do what you want, use the Round Price Bars to Tick Size study:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/TechnicalStudiesReference.html#s308

And set the Tick Size in the chart to .0001.

That will give you the result that you are looking for. We verified it.

Dear Support

I've already set the FXCM data default to 0.00001 so that it reflects the correct fractional pip value for the chart data and as there is no volume applicable assume I should not experience slowing. Re the Round Price Bars to Tick size:

1) The study itself seems to vanish once applied and the Chart Study window has been closed?

2) I don't think this study will actually help solve the tool calculations such that a fractional value is provided in the calculation. The anchors themselves already express the value to 4 decimals, even though a 5th is presented in all instances as (0) which suggests it is either ignored or already rounded.

In honesty, I don't want to take up your time on this as I can work to 4 decimals (2 JPY) and use the standard price display format.

Please can you let me know how the toolbar programming is progressing re post [2016-07-23 16:14:34]?

Many thanks

Paul

1. The study just alters the price bars. You will not see anything separate from it.

2. What do you have the chart Tick Size set to. It sounds like it is .0001 based upon what you said in item 2.
