We are getting ready to automate a system I have spent 10 years creating. We have limited access to The Bloomberg Terminal but I have used Sierra Charts a lot in the past. The system we want to automate and backtest is quite complex and we wanted to get an idea of the functionality of Sierra Charts coding and programming for this task. We could use Bloomberg Terminal but we only have access to one physical location shared with 100's of students and would prefer to use Sierra Charts if it is capable. I myself have used the system with Sierra in the past but I actively traded it. I have an two guys with degrees in Analytics, Programming, and Engineering. The system consists of patterns, R:R, breakouts, supports/resistance as well as news events and a couple proprietary indicators. I'm not certain if we will be using algorithms or not. I know this is a broad question. However, any and all information you could provide would be super helpful. We don't want to start working on the system and find out the functionality is not there, then switch to something else and loose time. |

Sierra Chart should work well for this. You will want to use the Advanced Custom Study Interface and Language. This is the relevant page: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ACSILTrading.html That page links to the other relevant documentation. I hope Wayne doesn't mind my interference. I, too, have questions on what happens after I've gotten a Sierra-based system up and running. Most importantly, how do I share it with others? Once I have a DLL ready, I know that I can upload the DLL to Sierra and ask them to open it up to so-and-so user. But that means those users need to have a copy of Sierra, especially if the DLL relies on "attached" orders. But what if the code does NOT use attached orders? And the user does not have a Sierra subscription? What if I want to put up my system for subscriptions through sites such as Striker.com or Collective2.com? These guys (or at least Striker) host the trading system on their own servers and buy/sell orders emanate from their servers, not the individual machines of users. Is it possible to deploy a Sierra-based system with such services? |

You need to start a new Support Request about this.
