Users who have been with us for at least several months now, know that there was a recent change to Sierra Chart where the Historical Chart symbol now matches the Intraday chart symbol in all cases. Previously Historical Charts have used the Barchart Data Service format for many of the supported Trading services. The change to use a consistent symbol was done to internally simplify a lot of areas of the program and also to make the symbols consistent for the user. Another change is that the decimal point position in the Historical Daily data files now matches that of Intraday chart data files. Unfortunately, these changes have caused 2 complications. One of which has been solved already. The remaining complication is that when a user switches between different Data or Trading services and the same historical daily data file is used with those services and those services use a different decimal point position for the prices for the symbol, this can cause invalid prices in Continuous Futures Contract Charts and requires a re-download of the data. There will be an automatic detection of data which needs to be re-downloaded and this will be done automatically. This will solve a common problem with Continuous Futures Contract charts. We have made changes with what we said above. In the next release Sierra Chart will automatically detect an incorrect decimal point position for prices in the historical daily data files and perform an automatic re-download of data if necessary. With the changes we are making, there will not be any effect for users and will automatically solve the problem caused by an incorrect decimal point position for prices in the historical daily data. We will also see how to improve upon the detection of missing data in historical daily data files which Continuous Futures Contract charts have a dependency on and can be affected by if there is missing data. In the latest revision of 1267 we have now completed development of automatic detection of invalid prices in Historical Daily data files used for Continuous Futures Contract charts. We also discovered that when fully re-downloading data for all contract months in an Intraday Continuous Futures Contract chart, that the historical daily data would not be fully re-download, only updated and this was a causing a problem where if there were invalid prices in those daily data files, they were not being corrected when following the procedure to fully re-download data. So at this point in time, Continuous Futures Contract charts should work very reliably in almost all cases, without user intervention.
