the zigzag tool defines a top and a bottom based on a retracement threshold, dividing all bars into swings. i would like to see each swing of the zigzag represented as one bar. the bar size will depend on the retracement amount, just as it does with ZigZag. there would be 3 flavors of this new periodicity corresponding to the 3 zigzag methods.

the purpose of this new periodicity is to be able to make detailed studies of swings as one would do with other types of bars. the analytical possibilities of being able to apply any study to an entire swing and not just a bar are enormous.

i have experimented with every bar type, including reversal bars, and point and figure, and these do not share the behaviour of the zigzag.

thank you for considering.

I am returning to Sierra Chart after a long hiatus and still require this functionality. Is this available with Reversal Bars, Flex Renko, or anything else?

Sierra, please advise.

Thanks John. For which bar type(s) can a max x% retracement in the bar be specified before printing a new bar (analogous to ZZ retracements) even if the retrace needs to be specified in ticks?

Example: a 20-tick bar with a max 4 tick retrace would accommodate a 20% counter move within the bar before printing a new bar in the same direction. If the retrace exceeds 20% at any time, a new bar begins to form against the direction of the original.

I hope this is clear, thanks

There are a few of these, such as Range Bars, Reversal Bars, and Renko. Refer to the different bar types at the following link to look through the available options and see if any of these will do what you are wanting:
